We’re heading into March and February is over at last. What are you reading this week, this month, to get you through the end of winter (which in New England has been good old-fashioned cold and snowy)?
Edith: I got four new cozies in the mail and have started with Julie Hyzy’s Home of the Braised in her fabulous White House Chef series. And can’t wait to read the other three, too!
Liz: I’m a little behind in my reading, but in addition to Lucy’s and Sheila’s mentioned above, looking forward to digging into Murder, She Barked by Krista Davis and Graveyard of Memories by Barry Eisler.
Barb: I’m reading Bertie Plays the Blues by Alexander McCall Smith. I love his gentle optimism and laugh out loud humor. I’m a fan of all the series, No. 1 Ladies Detective Agency, the Sunday Philosophy Club series, the Professor Von Igelfeld Entertainments, but most of all the 44 Scotland Street series and the adventures of poor Bertie, stuck with an overbearing mother. Perfect reading for the start of March. I’ve seen McCall Smith a couple of times, at the Boston Book Festival and the Key West Literary Seminar, and he cracks himself up, giggling at his own words as he reads. So charming.
Jessie: I just finished Practical Magic by Alice Hoffman and am now reading Stardust by Neil Gaiman and Wonderbook by Jeff Vandermeer.
Julie: I am so behind in my reading! Aside from the book I mentioned yesterday (Jab Jab Jab Right Hook), and the four books pictured above (all on my Kindle), I have downloaded A Tough Nut to Kill by Elizabeth Lee. This is a new series, and I noticed Facebook friends promoting it. I thought I’d give it a try–I love finding new series to love.
Readers: What’s up next on your bedside table or Kindle or i-thing?
I’m on an Irish binge, and I’ve been reading Lisa Alber’s debut, Kilmoon, set in County Clare. (She’s American, though.) It’s an intriguing story–I’m more than two-thirds of the way through it and I have no idea who the killer is or why he (or she?) killed anyone, but two people are dead.
Currently reading Gigi Pandian’s Pirate Vishnu, second in her treasure hunt mystery series, and after finishing Miranda James’s The Silence of the Library, I ordered reprints of the first three books in the Judy Bolton girls’ mystery series from the 1930s and am happily getting reacquainted with a childhood favorite in The Vanishing Shadow.

I’m working on An Appetite for Murder by Lucy Burdette. I was given an ARC of the latest in the series to read and review, and this was my introduction to the characters. Now I’m backtracking to catch up.
Next up will be Blackberry Pie Murder by Joanne Fluke and then a YA title, Let the Storm Break by Shannon Messenger.

I’m catching up on my mysteries set in Ireland with Sheila’s Scandal in Skibbereen and soon will start Lisa Alber’s Kilmoon. Then for something a little darker will read, because I need a good shiver now and then, something by Craig Robertson.
I can’t leave out the short stories in Stone Cold… great New England crime stories. That is beside my bed. I am rediscovering the intensity of short stories. They often stay with me for a long time and often longer than a novel.
I’m reading A Biscuit, a Casket! I got a free copy from netgalley. I love it so far and will post reviews when I’m done. I just finished Blackberry Pie Murder. Love Lake Eden. I didn’t love the series at first but it’s definitely grown on me and I look forward to each new edition in the series!
I have Stone Cold beside the bed and finished Blood Moom last weekend (or thereabouts). After just purchasing a Kindle Fire, I can’t decide which book to begin on that. I bedazzled by the covers! On my Kindle Reader, no color covers and the fact it opened directly to the first page of the story, I never had that problem. Not that I mind having this problem – very happy with what my new Kindle is bringing me.
