It’s October, Wicked Friends, and who doesn’t love this time of year? Costumes. Scary Movies. Candy. And of course, the Great Pumpkin.
Last January, on Edgar Allan Poe’s birthday, Wickeds Barb Ross, Sherry Harris, and Edith Maxwell, and Accomplices Sheila Connolly and Yours Truly released a collection of short stories based on some of Poe’s work: Edgar Allan Cozy. We had such fun coming up with our own twists on the classics.
Now, of course the Wicked Cozy Authors have the Most Sincere Blog around. And because you’ve all been extra good (not wicked at all), the Great Cozy Pumpkin has a gift for you, but only for a few days.

I had so much fun writing my take on The Telltale Heart – a story that’s been haunting me since I first read it at age ten (what WAS my mother thinking to set me loose on Poe?). We do mulch some–but we have A LOT of leaves. I listen to an audiobook and count the raking as my daily exercise.

I was first introduced to Poe in the 8th grade when a teacher played an audio version of Cask on 33rpm records. (Yes, I’m old.) I can still hear the reader saying “For God’s sake, Montresor….”

Oh, how auspicious is that, to be born on Halloween Eve and in Salem, no less! There’s a Cask of Amontillado story in Edgar Allan Cozy. And Happy Early Birthday!
Pit and the Pendulum. I was in second grade. It scared the heart out of me, but it wasn’t as scary as Shirley Jackson’s The Lottery. My brother had read that aloud to me as a bedtime story. and then at Halloween, we had to read Poe’s Pit and the Pendulum in class. Is it any wonder I went grey young?
Funny, Cait! I was scared by all of them. And kept reading, regardless…
Loved both of those stories! Now you make me want to go back and read “The Lottery” again…for old times’ sake.
