It Never Gets Old

This week I’m ecstatic that my fifth novel, A KNIT BEFORE DYING, is now out into the world. You’d think I’d be less excited this time around, but nope! It’s just as fresh and new and amazing and scary as when FETA ATTRACTION released a couple of years ago. I can say, though, that I think this one is the best, most complicated mystery I’ve ever done. Shhhh! It’s my favorite among my book children, even though we’re not supposed to play favorites, right?

So to celebrate the new book and the approach of autumn, when soft yarnish things and cozy mysteries are exactly what we need to settle ourselves in for the months ahead, I’m giving away two copies of the first book in the series, YARNED AND DANGEROUS.

  2. Congratulations on your new release, A Knit Before Dying.
    I’m currently reading two books, Great Small Things by Jodi Picoult and Painting the Moon by Traci Borum. I like to read cozies during the colder months, not sure why.
    I have a soon to be 17 yr. old tabby cat named Kit-Kat (aka “Kitty-Baby”) that we’ve had since he was 3 months old. He keeps me company during the day. We are growing old together. ( :

    1. Oh, I love Jodi Picoult! I will have to check out Traci Borum. And I hope you have many years left with Kit-Kat. I had a cat who lived to be 20–and she was indoor-outdoor, so that old myth about outdoor cats not living as long isn’t true 🙂

We have a grand-dog that visits overnight or for the week-end …I have been reading Ace Atkins Spencer books…he has done a fine job replicating Parker’s voice imho. also on the library waiting list for A Knit before Dying and Chime and Punishment. Also reading Doris Roberts Are You Hungry, Dear? and soon to start Martin Edwards’ The Story of Classic Crime in 100 Books.

    1. A grand-dog might be the best of both worlds–a canine companion to cuddle, then send home when she or she needs grooming or to go to the vet, LOL! And thanks for reading the Wickeds! Chime and Punishment is on my TBR list too.

  4. I am currently reading The Painted Queen, by Elizabeth Peters and Joan Hess. I have read your previous knitting mysteries, and am looking forward to this one! No tuxedo cats – my current kitty Leon is all black (with a couple stray white hairs on his tummy).

    1. I am waiting (tapping foot) impatiently for The Painted Queen, which I have on reserve at the library. I know it will be bittersweet. But I am still hopeful that there are some undiscovered manuscripts out there somewhere …

  5. Congratulations! No pets here, unfortunately. But the neighbors’ cat seems to have adopted us. He’s a gray something-or-other. 🙂

    I just picked up SKIES OF ASH yesterday as well as AMONG THE SHADOWS. Plus I’m reading a biography of the Duke of Marlborough, John Churchill (Winston’s ancestor).

  6. We do have a tuxedo cat named Romeow.He was a rescue and picked my husband as his forever friend. L am reading Twisted Threads by Lea Wait and can hardly putbit dowm and egg nog murders with a good story by Barbara Ross. Thanks for the chance to win a new book.

    No animals. Had many when the kids were growing up, including one tuxedo. Lots of books always going. Just completed “Clock and Dagger” by Julianne and started one by Louise Penny. Also reading Laura Lipmann’s “Wilde Lake” (will be completed by tomorrow) and am reading Ken Follett’s “Pillars of the Earth” a bit at a time! My book club chooses a large variety of books to read and we try to do one per month.

  8. Congratulations, Jane! I can’t wait to read it. Just finished a book last night and am looking forward to savoring Louise Penny’s Glass Houses over the long weekend. No pets here, after years of dogs. Our lifestyle is too peripatetic.

    1. Glass Houses is on my TBR list. I will probably get in audio though. I like to listen while I do housework or take my walks. And I understand about dogs. They are much more work than cats (which is why I have a cat, LOL!).

  9. Congratulations on your new release! I am currently reading Brownies and Broomsticks by Bailey Cates and The Adrenal Thyroid Revolution by Aviva Romm. I have three female cats (my babies); Sally (black), Charlie (smoky grey), and Molly (black and white).
    As the weather cools down, there’s nothing better than curling up by the fire with a cozy mystery and my kitties.

  10. Huge congrats on the new book!!! I’m sure the thrill never gets old since it represents so much hard work.

    I’ve never owned a cat. Allergies.

    However, I am currently reading A Christmas Peril by J.A. Hennrikus. So I earned some brownie points there.

    1. My sister is very allergic to cats (I mean, when she was little, she had a reaction requiring medical intervention), so I understand that. Me, I’m dealing with seasonal allergies right now. You’d think since I’d been dealing with it my entire life, I’d be used to it. Nope. And Mark, you probably have more brownie points around here than anyone 🙂

  12. Let’s see: currently reading The Science Fiction Century, Pineapple Lies, Graph Lies, and That Touch of Ink. Had a tuxedo cat 40 odd years ago, long since passed on. Currently cater to an orange marmalade tabby ex-tom, about 19 years old by best guess.

    1. Ooh, interesting choice of books, Barbara! I love a marmalade cat. I read somewhere recently that it is theorized that orange cats were preferred by the Vikings, based on the fact that everywhere the Vikings colonized, orange cats are more prevalent, even today. No idea if that’s true but it’s fun to think about.

  13. Currently finishing Unravelled, a Christian fiction novel, and will start Wendy Corsi Staub’s Cozy mystery Something Buried, Something Blue tonight.
    Yes, I have a tuxedo cat now, but instead of black and white, she is multicolored and white. Angel is a blast!

  14. Just finished Not Dead Enough by Peter James and about to start Cracked To Death by Cheryl Hollon (#3 in the Webb’s Glass Shop Mystery Series) which I have not read #1 or 2 and keeping fingers crossed that key points will be filled in 🙂

    As I downsized this year into an apartment, it is the first time without a pet but always have a treat in my pocket when out walking for the neighbors pups.

    1. Thanks, Rhaina! Are you like me? I have several books in various stages of completion all over the house, and I just pick them up randomly until I get sufficiently hooked into one to sit down and finish it. The human brain is an amazing thing, being able to separate the stories.

  16. I’m currently reading Magpie Murders, and will then read Yarned and Dangerous as it is the book club choice for September. It is already on my shelf. We have 3 kitties, none are tuxedo, but one is all black except for a few white hairs on her chest.

  17. I’m always reading several books at once, too. Right now, one of them is Knit Your Own Murder by Monica Ferris, so it’s kind of the same theme as your book!
