Wicked Wednesday – Favorite Reading Spot

Happy Wednesday friends! Last week, we talked about what we’re reading this summer. This week, we’re going to talk about where we’re reading all those awesome books. On the beach, in a park, your favorite chair…Wickeds, where do you do your best reading?

Barb: My favorite place to read–the front porch of our house in Boothbay Harbor, Maine.

Edith: I like to sit on my deck and read at the end of the day. I can see part of my garden and enjoy the shade. Here’s a pic I took the day after Memorial Day with the season’s first gin and tonic, two newspapers, and an excellent mystery.

Liz: My best place is the beach, toes in the sand, water in the distance. I could sit there for days and not move. Except to swim…

Sherry: This is my great grandfather’s rocking chair. It’s incredibly comfortable and I love the smooth curve of the wood. If you read my Sarah Winston books you might recognize this as the rocker that sits by the window that overlooks the town common.

Jessie: I love to read in bed tucked up with a fluffy duvet, a flotilla of pillows and rain clattering away on the roof. I have several books on the go at any one time and they are always in danger of toppling off my nightstand! I also keep a slim paperback or an ebook with me at all times to take advantage of those moments spent waiting on one thing or another. Stolen book moments make any spot a great reading spot in my book:)

Julie: I don’t have a favorite place. I do love reading on vacation, and am grateful for Kindles because I go through a lot of books. But I enjoy grabbing time when I can, where I can.

Readers, where is your favorite place to read?

39 Thoughts

  1. I love the “stolen book moments! I used to arrive half an hour early to pick up kids at school so I could read in the car.

  2. I would say it’s at the lodge, in front of the lake, on the beach but that only lasts a week a year.. We are turning our kids playroom into reading room, so very soon I believe that will be my favorite spot ❤❤

  3. Like Jessie, I like to read in (or on) bed, with a stack of pillows, and a teetering pile of books of many genres waiting while I try to decide what I feel like reading at any given time. And there is always at least one cat somewhere on the bed–or sitting on me.

  4. In bed next to my leaning tower of TBR books or the big green chair in the living room next to a basket of newspapers, unread New Yorkers etc. Archie the dog on my lap.

  5. In bed, propped up with pillows. In the bathtub, buried in bubbles. In front of the fireplace (winter only). The front porch. And when we finish our three-season room out back, probably there, too.

  6. My favorite space to read is probably my sofa in front of a large window, although I read just about everywhere, including restaurants and bars. People sometimes call me the “Book Lady.” I can read just about everywhere and really get deep into it. Like Jessie, I usually have multiple books going along with several projects. Keeps me busy!

  7. We have a cottage in the Pocono Mts. of PA, and there is nothing better than sitting on the porch while it is raining and enjoying a good book – or many good books!

  8. My favorite place to read is on my front porch. When we built our dream home last year, we made sure to include a wide front porch that goes across the entire front of our home. There are two ceiling fans for the summer heat and it’s wide enough you can be out there when it’s raining and never get wet. It’s a place of peace and quiet with only the critters (birds, deer, squirrels and chipmunks) stopping by for a visit and to eat at the feeders. A glass of something to drink, my comfy chair and a good book and I’m good. 🙂

  9. Definitely the sofa. I have it decked out with a long vibrating massage pad, a very sturdy, but soft blanket to cover the pad, and the world’s softest fleece blanket to cover up with. Add to that a couple of comfy pillows, a cat or two, a candle, and books, books, books! I also always have a book (paper pages or iPad or Kindle) with me at all times. It makes waiting anywhere a lot more tolerable, even pleasant.

  10. My favorite place is by the pool under the umbrella with a soft breeze blowing. if I can’t be outside, on the sofa under a blanket with Jax curled up on my legs.

  11. I love to read anywhere, any time. Before I discovered audiobooks, I was even known to read a paragraph or two at traffic lights. I even look forward to television commercials, because I can pick up my book or Kindle and read a bit. My one constant, though, is reading in bed. Every night before bedtime. Lots of pillows, a fluffy throw, and a good book. Perfect recipe for sleep. Or not.

  12. All you crazy people reading on your porch. It’s too hot for that in the summer! 😉 Maybe that’s why we don’t have those wonderful porches.

I do a lot of reading on my lunch hour, either in my car, or if it gets too warm, I find a place inside to hide away and read. My new job doesn’t seem to have a crowded and noisy lunch room, so hopefully I can hide away in there when it gets too hot to go to my car. It’s harder to get my lunch time nap when I hide away inside, however.

  13. These all look so inviting! If I lived by the sea, I’d read on the porch every day. Since I don’t, and the humidity and mosquitoes are horrible in the summer here, I’ve got a spot on my couch that calls my name! 😉

  14. When I was house hunting a few months ago, one of the houses I looked at had a bay window in the master bedroom. My real estate agent told me I could put a chaise lounge in front of it and have a great place to read. I bought the house.

  15. Every evening, while my husband is in the den watching tv and my daughter is in her bedroom, watching tv and probably everyone else in America is watching tv, I am in my bedroom sitting in my recliner reading.
