Full Circle

By Liz, enjoying the first glimpse of spring and warm weather!

I’ve been living a triple life lately. There’s the day job, the writing job, and the new business job. And then there’s, well, life, but that’s a whole other story.

In any case, I was thinking about the trajectory of my writing life as I’m working on my new book, and working through getting Spirit Writers up and running. And I realized how cool it is when things come full circle.

My business is all about helping people come back to their creative selves using all manner of spiritual tools and practices. You know, the woo-woo stuff: crystals, essential oils, meditation, oracle cards, etc. My new book, which I can’t wait to share with you (I hoped I’d have an official name by now, but soon!) allows me to dive deep into a lot of these tools in my fictional world.

Ok, I’ve been dying to do this so here it is: A sneak preview of the book. My main character is Violet Moon, and she’s a witch. But she doesn’t know she’s a witch until, through a series of unfortunate events, she’s reunited with her mother, who she hasn’t seen since she was a child.

Violet owns a crystal shop and one of her superpowers is pairing people with the crystals they need, even when they don’t know exactly what their core problem is. Crystals have been a huge part of my life for many years, and I use them for tons of things – including my own creative journey. And now I get to teach people about them, both in my business AND in my new book. And I love the whole witchy vibe so it’s perfect!

I’m still figuring out how to weave essential oils into the book, but this is another tool I’m so excited to be able to share with people. I’ve been dabbling in oils for years, but last year I started to use them in earnest and really learn about all the awesome things they can do.

I feel like it’s fate that these two things are happening at once – I’m so excited for both of them and I can’t wait until I can tell you more about the book!

In the meantime, come on over to the Spirit Writers Facebook page and join the conversation. And tell me below – do you use any woo woo tools? Love witchy things? Share so I know there are kindred spirits out there!

  1. I’m so excited for this book, Liz! And for you that these two parts of your life are coming together. Hugs, and congratulations.

I included a palm reader in my latest manuscript, with a non-woowoo protag, who realizes a little too late she should have taken the palm reader’s warning seriously. ;^)

  2. Hmm could Violet end up with an assistant that does aromatherapy massage? Love the idea of the book!

  3. This is all so fascinating. I’m not really into woo-woo stuff, but I have no prejudice against it. I’m a true believer in, if it works, go for it. I am a spiritual person and have visited a shaman in Peru and have been through a couple of beautiful ceremonies with him. It never hurts to add another layer of “magic” into our lives.

Best of luck on the book. I look forward to reading it.

  4. So glad you mentioned Spirit Writers! Finally, I’m making time for my writing – and finding minutes to comment on blogs – this is a good thing and SW is responsible. My crystal books are arriving today – can’t wait – that’s a new area for me. I’ve long dabbled in essential oils but hubs is scent sensitive so I’m trying to find work arounds for atomizers.

Looking forward to the new book.

  5. I don’t use any woo-woo – then again, I find relaxing in a lavender-scented bath is wonderful at the end of a long day, so maybe I do.

  6. I’m so happy for you, Liz. I’m not very woo woo. But I do love the Stress Away that you gave me. I don’t always wear it but some days I carry it around with me waving it under my nose like its smelling salts. I have one crystal that you and Julie bought for me in New Orleans. It’s sits on my desk and I use it like a worry stone rubbing my thumb across it.

  7. CeeCee James integrated essential oils in the plot line of her new book Home Strange Home. It was interesting to read about them, too.

  8. I like the idea of essential oils but I’m very sensitive to smells so haven’t tried any yet. I had to put a candle that someone gave me on the enclosed front porch until I could give it away because I couldn’t stand to have it in the house. I’d hate to spend money on something I couldn’t tolerate. The book sounds good, though.

    1. Candles are different, Sally – learned that they typically have some not-so-good for you components to them. Oils are derived directly from the plants, so sometimes the smells take some getting used to but they are pure (as long as you have a good brand).

  9. What fun, Liz. Best of luck with the new book!

The older I get the less I realize I know how the world actually works, and the more open I am to other ways of thinking, especially ancient ones. Acupuncture is a good example. I’ve had such amazing results from the very accomplished practitioner who has helped me live a more pain-free life. Homeopathic medicines have also helped me stay healthy for decades.

Years ago, a neighbor and friend was also a body work practitioner. She used what anyone would call woo-woo techniques to help me over a very rough time in my life. Not only was the work beneficial for my body, but it helped me release decades-old emotional pain, as well. I wish everyone could have such good experiences.

    1. I love this, Karen. I’ve done homeopathy for decades, on both me and my animals. And I do like acupuncture, though I haven’t been in a couple of years. This stuff is so good for us on so many levels!

  10. I don’t use any woo woo, however, I do think it’s fun when it’s part of stories.
