Thankful Thursday

Dina Stout is the winner of our Thankful Thursday giveaway. Dina please send me your contact information: sherryharrisauthor@gmail.com

About six weeks ago we were having a meeting via Zoom. We were talking about the blog and came up with the idea to have a Thankful Thursday on the third Thursday of the month. It would allow us to talk about what we were thankful for and allow our readers to do the same. It seems like the perfect time to start this new feature.

And there’s a giveaway! Tell us what you are thankful for and one person who leaves a comment will have a chance to win the following: Pruning the Dead by Julia Henry, an ARC of Murder at the Taffy Shop by Maddie Day, Jane Darrowfield, Professional Busybody by Barbara Ross, Murder Flies the Coop by Jessie Ellicott, an ARC of Witch Hunt by Cate conte, and a copy of a Sarah Winston Garage Sale mystery — your choice by Sherry Harris.

So here is what we are grateful for:

Cate/Liz: I’m thankful for my fur babies.

Maddie/Edith: I’m thankful for all the community efforts to make sure kids, elders, and those in need are fed. And that I’ve been home for ten days after two plane flights with no virus symptoms.

Jessica/Jessie: I am thankful for video chatting so that I can get my eyes on my loved ones even when we are far apart.

Sherry: I’m thankful that the weather is warm enough to take Lily out for long walks and that we can admire all the flowering trees. I’m also thankful for all the artists, musicians, and dancers who are sharing their talents on line.

Julia/Julie: I’m thankful for Zoom so that I can continue to teach my theater classes and so that I can stay connected to other folks while staying put.

Barbara: I am grateful that everyone I have dealt with in any sphere of my personal or business life during this time has acted in a spirit of cooperation, caring and carefulness. Please take care of yourselves.

Readers: What are you thankful for?

92 Thoughts

  1. I am thankful for a strong, positive family and for the wonder of technology that is keeping us connected though the many medical crises of the past year. This Covid-19 is a doozy.

  2. I’m thankful for my husband and my Kensi Kitty who both calm my nerves right now.

  3. I am thankful to be back home in Canada after travelling for 15 days. It’s great to stay connected with online communities like the Wickeds as I start my 14-day self-isolation.

  4. I am thankful for books and the wonderful authors who can keep us entertained during such a trying time.

  5. What a great topic. I am thankful that we have the internet, so even if we’re all isolating we’re not completely disconnected.

  6. I am thankful that my mom is recovering well after her knee replacement on March 9. She is hoping to come home on the weekend! She is on the isolated floor of the skill unit of the hospital and I have not been able to visit her. I have been living at her house and caring for her dog. I am so thankful that all is going well with her recovery so far! ❤️

      1. I found out today that if all goes as planned, her staples will come out tomorrow and I can bring her home Saturday! ♥️

  7. Always at the top of my list is my terrific husband, followed by my hounds and tabby girl. They see me through it all.

  8. Given everything going on, I’m thankful that I have a job that I can still go to and get paid for so that I don’t have to worry about losing my house.

Yes it is kind of a self-centered sense of thankfulness but if I can’t take care of me, I sure can’t begin to take care of anyone else.

  9. I’m thankful that I’m able to work from home. I’m also thankful that I don’t have to climb up the subway stairs or walk the long distance anyplace.

  10. We are self quarantined and I am thankful that I’m married to the person I’d most like to be quarantined with in the whole world! (Not a grammatically correct sentence, but a true one.)

  11. I’m thankful to have the companionship of my loving husband during this time of volunteer self-quarantine. I’m thankful that we have a home to stay in, food to eat and money to pay the bills during the same time. I’m thankful for the hobby of photography and living where critters come daily to visit giving us subjects to photograph keeping us active and mentally alert while enjoying being outside and still be able to stay home during this time of isolation.

I’m also thankful for all the Wickeds and their God given talent to write that keep us all entertained!

What a wonderful giveaway! Extremely generous as always. Someone will be very fortunate. I would be beyond thrilled to be that someone. Thank you for the chance! <3

  12. Good morning ladies! Today’s high is 67! 🙌🙌🙌 That’s what I’m Thankful for today! I can sit on my front porch and maybe go for a walk.😊
    Have a blessed day everyone!

  13. I am thankful for a healthy extended family that so far shows no signs of illness! As we have some at risk family members, this is a blessing.

  14. My son’s school was shut down last Friday and in two weeks the teachers had to figure out how to educate online and from home. I’m grateful that the teachers are still out there, still trying to educate and for my school district for having the foresight to go digital classrooms three years ago! Teachers rock!

Oh, and I’m grateful for the Wickeds! Thanks for bringing me a little 🌞 each morning!!

  15. Perfect timing for such an uplifting post, ladies! I’m thankful that my family is healthy, we have technology to keep in touch, and we have so many everyday heroes who continue to show up to work to keep things together. ♥️

  16. I’m thankful to have a warm home, full of food, and my family is weathering this in good health and (relative) good spirits (that last is mostly my son, who says this whole thing is a definite downer on his senior year of high school).

  17. I am grateful that I am in my new apartment, I have lots of time to get settled in, I am living right next door to my sister, I have my fur babies, who are finally starting to relax, and about 700 books so I can relax when time allows. All friends and family are so far safe and settled down in place.

  18. I am thankful that my family is okay and I have two funny intelligent book loving granddaughters! I am thankful for the warmer weather so I can go outside to weed and look to see what’s growing !!!

  19. I’m thankful that the only thing I have left on my restock list is Puffs Plus tissues… Yesterday was a mix of babysitting and visiting not only Costco but BJ’s also… and still came up short on the honey do list.. I have other holiday prep chores to get done today so maybe I’ll magically find a store that has what I need in stock. LOL

  20. I’m thankful for my family, especially my Father. We live together, he’s 97, and I would so hate to be alone at this time. It’s very strange to be in the high risk demographic. I don’t think about my age much normally. Take care all.

  21. I am grateful for libraries and authors – i read a lot and can’t afford to buy books. Thanks to Leslie Budewitz, i found out i can follow her and other authors on facebook, which led to sites like yours. I don’t think i would be here if i couldn’t read books.

  22. I’m thankful that I have a job, and thankful for books! I love seeing how the reading community is coming together to support indie bookstores in this time. Thanks to all of you Wickeds!

  23. I am thankful for my husband and caretaker. I also am thankful for delivery services for food and goods. Thankful for prayer and trust in God. Thankful for books to raise my spirits and authors. Tha fully to know history and that this to shall pass.

  24. Thankful for so many things in these trying times. My two wonderful kids who have willingly adapted to an at-home school schedule and are learning new and interesting things, in addition to keeping up with review of what they had been working on at school; a husband who is able to work from home as well and is remaining loving and upbeat; my animal kingdom (2 dogs, 2 cats, 1 hermit crab) without which we would not survive; the fact we moved one month ago into a delightfully eccentric house with lots of character and lots of land (including woods and a creek, pastures and a barn, and wonderful nature) to roam around on while we are staying at home; Italians singing out of their windows; all the people working to feed school children who rely on school meals for their food; all the helpers. Thank you to all the helpers!

  25. I’m thankful for technology that allows me to work from home. Because otherwise I’d be in the office. We are crazy busy right now.

  26. The thing I am most thankful for is that among my entire extended family, no one has caught this nasty virus yet. Several members live in one of the few counties in our state that has had confirmed cases, but so far everyone is good. The other thing I’m really grateful for is that I’m a book hoarder… there, I said it, I’m a hoarder! I could be in quarantine for over a year and not run out of something to reread! Actually, you could probably change that to 5 years.! Here’s hoping it doesn’t come to that! Lol!
I’m fixing to make what is hopefully my last trip into town to see if a couple of fresh items have been restocked and to pay bills early at a couple of places, then into hibernation. I decided I’m going to hibernate, not quarantine, sounds more pleasant. Lol! Keep healthy everyone!

  27. I’m thankful for my health, family, my pup and the sacrifices the healthcare workers (some of my family included) have done to help others getting through these difficult times.

  28. Kids are ok, grandkids ok, stocked pantry and big ( big!) stack of books. Both sister and sister in law were overseas when this hit – thankful they are home now and seem ok, in spite of some inadvertant exposure. Just holding our breath and waiting to see what happens.

  29. It goes without saying that I am thankful for my family, critters, and friends. That’s a constant. In this time of crisis I’m grateful for so much more.

I’m grateful for the way the country and the world have pulled together to address the issues with little complaint. I’m grateful for the Italians for showing us the way by bursting into song from their windows while maintaining quarantine. I’m grateful for the selflessness of the first responders and medical personnel who are keeping us safe by putting themselves in the front lines of danger. I’m thankful for those who are creatively thinking outside the box to provide a measure of normality in our lives. We’ll get through this, we always have, but it is a strange new world.

  30. Sign up for Bookbub. It’s free and many books are offered for free or for as little as 99 cents. It gives you lots of options without having to leave your home.

  31. That response was meant for Taylor, but of course, it is for everyone.

I’m grateful for a warm, safe home, a wonderful hubby, a safe income, a full larder (no I didn’t hoard – it’s always like that), and the wonderful outdoors where I can get out into the world without a threat to myself or others.

And I’m certainly grateful for the Wickeds and all the joy they bring to all of us.

  32. I am thankful that my family, although scattered across the country, is healthy and safe, that we are comfortable and doing just fine with sheltering in place. And I am especially thankful when I become aware of an act of kindness, whether it be words of encouragement, authors giving away books, people just helping one another. Many are being selfish and thoughtless, perhaps out of fear but perhaps just because they weren’t that nice to begin with, but it is heartening to see the good side of people. I look forward to my favorite blogs, like The Wickeds, each morning. Brightens my day and helps to balance the serious news.

  33. I’m thankful for my cats, Hamilton and Jefferson for always being there for me. I’m also thankful for my Sister, she’s my best friend and reading buddy. Another thing I’m thankful for is all the wonderful authors that write the books that keep me reading.

  34. I’m thankful for my cat. She wishes I got to stay home with her like everybody else instead of going to work.

  35. I am so thankful for my dog Tyler, my family, and the fact that I have always apocalyptic purchased.

  36. I am thankful for: my husband and son work from home. The restaurant our daughter worked at closed but she was able to get full time at Target. Our bible study group can still meet online through Google meetings YAHH I am grateful that we rescued two kitties in December. They are pure joy and fun. Much needed in these times of stress. 37. I’m grateful for antibiotics I got bronchitis and I’m feeling better. Also for doctors and nurses. Thank you for the chance

  38. I am thankful that I am healthy and alive along with my husband and dog. God is good.

  39. Grateful that not everyone is a hoarder (our stores are starting to get supplies in), that authors are writing wonderful books, that we have three cute rescued furbabies, and extremely thankful for my Cajun hubby who cooks for us and takes good care of us!
