Thankful Thursday

Hi Wickeds! It’s the last Thankful Thursday of the year. What are you grateful for as we close out this crazy year, and what do you want to give to our readers?

Julie: I’m grateful for my writing life–the books I’ve written, my readers, and the Wickeds. I’m also grateful for streaming services, e-books and Zoom. While not being about to go out is terrible, technology makes it a lot easier. Grateful for friends and family as well. These days those connections matter more than ever.

Edith/Maddie: Right with you there, Julie, on family, friends (with the Wickeds way up top on the list), and the internet (via electricity). I’m also thankful for the scientists who created an effective vaccine in record time and for so many dedicated health workers risking their own lives to take care of the sick among us. I’d love to send one reader a copy of Taken Too Soon, which is about health care worker Rose Carroll.

Barb: As we come up to the shortest day of the year, New Years Day, and my birthday, I am grateful for another trip around the sun. It hasn’t been the greatest year for anyone, but for me it had some real highlights, including the birth of a granddaughter, and the month my husband and I got to spend with our seven-year-old granddaughter and her parents. I wouldn’t have missed it for anything. I’m giving away an Advance Reader Copy of Shucked Apart, the ninth Maine Clambake Mystery.

Liz: Happy almost-birthday, Barb! Like Julie, I’m thankful for so much about my writing life. As I wrap up another book, I’ve been reflecting on how thankful I am to be regularly publishing books, meeting readers (online of course) and being able to entertain people. And the Wickeds, of course! I’m giving away a copy of A Whisker of A Doubt, the fourth Cat Cafe Mystery.

Sherry: I’m thankful for all the delivery people and behind the scenes workers who are making a social distance Christmas possible this year. I’m also grateful for an unexpected sixty-seven degree day we had last Sunday that made it possible to be outside with some lovely neighbors that we haven’t seen in a couple of months. I’ll give away an ARC of Absence of Alice.

Readers, what about you? What are you thankful for this month?

55 Thoughts

  1. Good morning!
Im always thankful for my family and friends! I’m thankful for my phone. Which has made it possible for me to keep connected with friends, share pictures, know when friends are in need of prayers. To meet and learn about new books and authors.
Thank you for the chance to win your wonderful giveaway!
    Have a wonderful day!!!

  2. I am thankful how long my list of what I am thankful for aka “good things” grows longer.

  3. I am thankful for staying healthy this year, support of friends and family over this time. I’m also thankful for being able to do a grocery store pickup instead of going into the store when this is at it’s worst.

  4. I’m thankful that I’m still healthy, relatively speaking. I say that because I’ve been out shoveling the wet and heavy snowfall and I’ve already wrenched my back a bit. I’m hoping that I get a snow day from work so I can rest.

Other reasons I’m thankful, I’ve been productive with my review writing and reading books to review down the line. Getting three new ARCS in the mail always makes me happy/thankful.

These are small tokens to be thankful for but I haven’t hit the lottery and I’m not dating a supermodel so small things will have to do. 😀

  5. The most recent thing I’m extremely thankful for is finally getting in at the doctor’s office. After three confirmed appointments were cancelled by their office last minute (one within 30 minutes of appointment), I actually got in the office and saw the doctor yesterday. It gave me peace of mind knowing that some medical issues were being addressed. I’m now wearing a 24 hour heart monitor, much needed blood work was done to check some levels that are suppose to be checked regularly and I found out that the shingles shot I had some years back doesn’t work too well (like only 60%). I was able to drive to the pharmacy and them come out to the car for my first of a two shot series of the new shot. Praying that I have as much success next week when I see my new rheumatologist in Little Rock after that appointment being cancelled and changed twice already. They say to keep up with you medical needs during these trying times, but how can you if you can’t get in?

For the whole month of December, I’m so thankful for all the hard working medical personal that are tending to the Covid victims. Can’t imagine how hard it is to be working in such dire situations day after day. Thankful for the scientist who have worked tirelessly to come up with a vaccine and pray that it’s out to every corner of the earth very soon. Thankful that my family has been spared and pray for all those not so fortunate.

Thankful for all the wonderful author’s who have published books I so enjoy reading. With the stay at home, and it lasting so long, books have been a whole lot of what has kept me entertained and keeping my world “normal”. It’s where I can escape the daily news with laughter from a funny event, happiness with someone’s dream comes true, work my mind on finding out whodunit, and even cry in a tender moment. Thank you!

  6. I am thankful that my family is happy, healthy, and behaving safely in this difficult year. I am thankful that my husband and I are comfortably retired as we approach 40 years together and all that resultant increase in together time has been a joy. LOL

  7. I’m thankful for family and friends (counting the Wickeds in the friends column) and for our successful move to Maine. I’m also thankful for the vaccine and for the front line workers who have so selflessly continued to go to work every day so the rest of us can enjoy a more stable life in these unstable times.

  8. Thankful that my family members and most of my friends have been careful and managed to stay healthy and employed throughout this awful pandemic. Thankful for the vaccine that is within reach so we will be able to gather together safely soon.

  9. Like many others here, I am thankful for a healthy family and a warm and happy home (especially in this snowstorm in the Northeast!). I would love an ARC- I didn’t even know what they were until a few years ago!

  10. I am thankful for The Wicked and all other authors who made this year easier. I am also grateful for my uncomplicated, loving caregiver husband. Also thet I made it through the year with 3 surgeries and many hospitalizations.

  11. I’m thankful for all you wonderful authors who’s wonderful characters in y’alls books that have kept me sane for many years and especially this year. Thank y’all

  12. I’m so thankful for the brilliant people who came up with vaccines for this horrible virus. And for the wonderful people at the grocery store who dealt with empty shelves and angry customers.

  13. I’m thankful I have stayed healthy during this pandemic. I’m also thankful for all the authors who put so much time and love into their books. I wish I could read them all.

  14. Health, family, faith, friends…so grateful for all! And, I am very grateful for you Wicked’s and your generosity introducing me to authors I have not read. I just finished reading the book A Very English Murder by Verity Bright and a quote from there is how I feel about you…. The main character says to another character: “you always bring me a basket of feel-good each morning.” Julie, Barb, Edith, Jessie, Sherry and Liz…YOU each bring me a “basket of feel-good each morning” when I come here with my cup of coffee. Thank you, I am most grateful!

  15. Health, family, faith, friends…I am so grateful for all! And, I am grateful to have you Wicked’s to “visit” each morning and discover what you have written and what others you generously welcome here have written, too. I just finished the book A Very English Murder by Verity Bright and in it the main character says to another character: “you always bring me a basket of feel-good each morning.” Julie, Liz, Edith, Barb, Sherry and Jessie…you alway bring me a “basket of feel-good” when I come here with my coffee each morning. I am so very grateful for you each one.

  16. I’m thankful that my 82-year-old “big sister” survived Covid, and for friends and family who do good things for me and others, most recently dinner from “my” nuns, 80 and 90 year-old Catholic sisters, among my oldest friends, and for my daughter who brings me sushi from our favorite sushi restaurant. And my French Bulldog, Sadie, who keeps me company.

  17. I am most thankful that we are still healthy and safe . So far my family has managed to keep covid-19 from entering our household by taking all the recommended precautions and staying home as much as possible.

  18. I am grateful for good health for all family and friends so far, and the fact that the vaccine is already being used, and we will all benefit from the work of the doctors and scientists who made this possible.

  19. I’m thankful that my immediate family has stayed virus free so far and that those in my extended family that caught it have gotten better with only 1 person having had to be hospitalized with it. I’m thankful that my uncle had a great medical team because he caught it close to the beginning of all this, when not as much was known about how to treat it with successful outcomes. I’m thankful that my nephew that was born with a heart syndrome where his heart wasn’t formed correctly, just had a mild case of it. I’m especially thankful that our doctors and nurses haven’t given up and are still there for us if we need them. And last but not least I’m thankful for my book groups and all of my book-hoarding ways that kept me well entertained during the lockdown times when the library wasn’t open….I have my own library! Lol!

  20. I’m thankful that my family and friends have come through and that we have hope for a better 2021. And I’m incredibly grateful for the support that my fellow writers — including the Wickeds! — have given me during an extremely tough debut year. I can’t thank them enough.

  21. Thankful for my first grand baby being born safe and healthy and my daughter safely delivering him , took 12 hrs!

  22. I’m grateful that I have a new appreciation for staying in touch with friends and family. We are growing closer because of it. This is such a blessing.

  23. I am thankful for our family. I am also thankful what we have stayed healthy so far this season.

  24. I’m grateful for this blog that I wake up to every morning. All the Wickeds’ writing and the comments from the readers make me feel as if I’m really a part of a large, friendly, literate family, something that wouldn’t happen in person. As much as I miss the one-on-one contact (complete with hugs) I’m grateful for the technology that allows for interaction with our friends and loved ones. I’m grateful for a Zoom so we can share Christmas with our daughter. My gratitude list is so long it makes Santa’s naughty and nice list look paltry.

And I would love to win any and all of the books listed above. I think I’ve read all of the books leading up to them.

  25. I am thankful for all the great books written by the Wicked Authors. For all the entertainment in both ebook and physical books. For both the nights I can’t sleep and the nights the book keeps me awake.

    1. In fact, thanks to extra time off for Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve, I’m only working 4 days this week, 3 days next week, and 2 days the week after.

  26. I’m thankful that 2020 is coming to an end. I’m thankful for an early diagnosis and surgery better take care of it. I’m thankful for friends and family. And I’m thankful for the books that you write and I enjoy.

  27. Happy Holidays and Happy Thankful Thursday! I continue to be thankful that our extended family is safe, healthy, employed and finding ways to cope. Also thankful for vaccines and that we are getting closer (however slowly and painfully) to Inauguration Day. And I am ever thankful for books and the authors like The Wickeds who through not only their books but their posts entertain us, life our spirits, make us laugh and show us we’re all in this together.

  28. I’m thankful for The Wickeds and all the other authors who keep writing and putting out books during this tough time. Allowing us to escape through our imagination into your stories is such a blessing, especially nowadays. Thanks for being a positive, welcoming light during some dark days. Here’s to a hopeful new year!

  29. I’m grateful for you awesome authors! During the pandemic, reading books was very comforting for a lot of people. Books will always help us through hard times. Of course, I’m also thankful for my wonderful family. Here’s hoping 2021 brings all of us much happiness and joy!!

  30. I’m thankful for continued connection with friends, and the ability to crochet and read. Both have helped me stay sane during all this. aut1063(at)gmail(dot)com

  31. Happy holidays! I am thankful for authors who kept us entertained this year, children who remind me of a hopeful future and the quiet that descends on these cold nights of winter. Into this darkness comes light, from a menorah or an advent wreath or a Kwanzaa celebration, all lead us to hope, which what I am really thankful for this day.

  32. I’m thankful for my family, friends and the furbabbies in our family. I’m also grateful that my family and friends are in good health.

  33. So far, I’ve not had to shovel horrible white stuff. (Just not going to say the S-word)

  34. I am very thankful for my little family (my mom, husband, and 4.5 year old b/g twins and our dog). This year hasn’t been easy but we’ve had it a lot easier than so many and I’m very thankful for our blessings!

  35. I am thankful for a renewed relationship with my Dad after my stepmom’s death this year. We have become closer. We talk to each other a few times a day. He stops by the house a few times a week.

  36. I’m grateful to have found your group. I’ve very much enjoyed The Wickeds emails. They frequently make my day. Not to mention the wonderful new books and authors I’ve been introduced to.
I read somewhere a practice to replace negative thoughts with grateful ones. When your mind says I hate…. replace it with I’m grateful for… keeping it simple and immediate. I’m grateful for my smart phone and the internet I can so easily connect to, just sitting in my chair. I’m grateful for said chair. The electric lights that allow me to see, as the days are so dark. Like that.. I have found it really helps me. I wish you all very Happy Holidays and the wonderful New Year we are all hoping for.

  37. Isn’t it amazing how many things we can be grateful for? Good for you for figuring that out. Makes for a much more pleasant existence.
