Five, Six, Seven, Eight

Jessie: In New Hampshire where the backyard firepit is getting a lot of use!

I am delighted to announce that I’ve recently signed a contract to write books 7 & 8 of the Beryl and Edwina Mysteries!

I have loved the chance to develop the characters and storylines in this series over time. It seems like just yesterday that Beryl and Edwina swept full-blown into my imagination and out onto the page. The village of Walmsley Parva and its assorted inhabitants have delighted me with their antics over all this time. I have grown to love Beryl’s motorcar and Simpkins’s culinary concotions. Charles Jarvis has inspired me to try my hand at painting. Edwina has renewed my enthusiasm for gardening.

But I’ve also learned about growing characters and their relationships to each other with each book. I’ve tried my hand at revealing a bit of backstory for characters a nibble at a time so as to deepen them without slowing the story down. I’ve learned more about pigeons, coal mines, the census, anti-Irish sentiments, war wounds and the Women’s Land Army than I could have anticipated.

I’ve gotten the chance to visit the U.K., build relationships with readers near and far and to enjoy the thrill of my novels being turned into audiobooks. All in all it has been a wonderful experience. I have ideas galore for novels 7 & 8, which will release in 2023 and 2024 and I can hardly wait to see what happens next two my intrepid sleuthing duo. To celebrate the good news I have 3 ARCs of Murder in an English Glade to give away to a randomly chosen commenters!

Readers, do you have a favorite series? Tell us about it!

  1. Yours is certainly one of my favorites, Jessie! I’m so happy Beryl and Edwina have been renewed and can’t wait to see what they get up to.

  2. There’s so many series that I love it would really be impossible to pick one above all the others with any real sense of certainty.

However, I will say that Edith’s Country Store Mysteries is without a doubt my favorite cozy series AND is definitely high atop the overall list (Top 3?). I really enjoy getting to read each story when it comes out (or earlier if I’m lucky enough to get an ARC).

I’m sure people here have read the series so I don’t know what I can say about the series that hasn’t been said already by any number of people. But what I do know is that “Robbie Jordan kicks as much butt as Jack Reacher…with way better food!”

  3. I absolutely LOVED Murder Flies the Coop, so I am hoping for an ARC of Murder in an English Glade. I have to admit, though, that my two favorite series are by Jeannie Wycherley; The Wonky Inn series, and the Wonderland Detective Agency series.

  4. Congratulations!! I’m looking for a new series right now but I do have lots of favorites I’ve read – Barbara’s Maine Clambake Mysteries, Hannah Swensen series, Joann Flukes series, I could go on an on. I know I’ve read your Beryl and Edwina books at some point, looking forward to reading more!

  5. I read and enjoy several series by several authors, including your Beryl and Edwina. I love these two! I’ve liked all your series, though. I also love Donna Andrews’s Meg Langslow series, Rhys Bowen’s Royal Spyness series, Edith Maxwell’s various series, Barb’s Clambake series, Spencer Quinn’s Chet and Bernie series, and many more.

  6. Congratulations on the series! Absolutely love this one! I feel like I am right there in England with them!

  7. I have many favorite series but Donna Andrew’s Meg Landslow comes to mind. The clever titles and continuing story development makes me read everyone. Susan Wittig Albert Darling Dahalias and China Bayles series create the same interest.

  8. Hip, hip, Hooray dear Jessie! So looking forward to reading your latest book, plus the next two! I absolutely love the setting and the period. Thank you for transporting us to the UK and back in time! Congratulations!

  9. Congratulations, so happy to hear the series will be extended! Love this series! Besides the mystery itself, I look forward to reading about the British traditions and the traditions from that time period as well.

  10. It’s hard to pick a favorite so I will go with the two that I re-read. Donna Andrews series with Meg Langslow and the County Cork series by Sheila Connolly.
Congratulations on the new contract, I look forward to reading the books.

  11. This is such wonderful, outstanding and exciting news!!! Thank you for sharing Beryl and Edwina with us. It is a very favorite series of mine to read. Other than all the rest of the Wicked author’s series, I also enjoy: the Lady Eleanor Swift series by Verity Bright, the Spice Shop Mysteries by Leslie Budewitz, the Sarah Blair Mysteries by Debra H. Goldstein and the Mercy Carr Mysteries by Paula Munier. I am so very thankful for all of you authors who write mysteries and help keep my mind sharp.

  12. Fantastic! And isn’t the Women’s Land Army fascinating? So happy your series is continuing.

  13. Congratulations, Jessie! I’ve been excited about these books since I heard about them. Can hardly wait for Murder in an English Glade later this month.

  14. Congrats! Glad to hear the adventures will continue!

I’ve never been good at picking a favorite anything, so I have several favorite books/series/authors. Each one I like for different reasons and sometimes it just depends what I’m in the mood to read about. I love to go back and re-read them but I’ve gotten behind on books to read the first time through that I haven’t been lately.

    1. Thanks, Alicia! I’m a re-reader too and always chose a book based on my mood. Even ones I love arent always what I feel like reading at any given time.

  15. Congrats! I look forward to my yearly visit, so I’m happy to hear there will be more books in the series.

  16. I really love your books. I am very excited to hear more books are coming!!!

  17. Congrats on a two book contract, that’s awesome for us readers! I have to say that my favorite series is usually the one I’m reading at that time. I have so many favorites it would be too hard to choose.

  18. Love your books!!! I have so many series I enjoy so it’s hard to pick! Can’t wait to read more of yours!!

    Happy reading!!

  19. If it’s written by a Wicked, I know I’ll love it! Just finishing Murder in an English Glade and loving it. So glad to hear two more are in the works. 🙂
