Merry Christmas to all who celebrate! We are sharing our favorite decorations.
Barbara: For this post, I chose something new, not a cherished family heirloom. One of the few renovations my husband and I have done in our current place is an upgrade of the lighting on the living floor, including this chandelier over the dining table. Last year I had the idea to add Christmas balls to it during the holiday season. Normally, I think it looks like a cityscape, but with the balls added, it looks to me like icicles.
Julie: I really struck gold with my sisters. We’ve been juggling a lot of family stuff this year, but we’ve remained united, supportive, and friends. I bought them this ornament because it made me laugh, we all love White Christmas, and because it’s true. There were never such devoted sisters.
Edith: My nativity scene holds so many memories, past and present. My mother painted the traditional figures, and they were the ones we set out every year when I was a child. My older sister, Barbara (a big fan of all the Wickeds’ cozies) got the set and used it with her four sons, but after I had my own young family, she passed it along to us. She also sent me the red yarn elves when we lived in Mali for a year and had zero Christmas decorations. About ten years ago I found Snoopy in a box and added him, and then Garfield and Bert. Now I love to add other figures as I come across them (which is how RBG and Obama joined the birthday party).
Liz: I lost all of my old, meaningful decorations. I guess I can say it was the first decoration I got to start my new collection. Plus, he’s very regal and I love that about him.
Sherry: I have a lot of Santas but my latest obsession is vintage spaghetti-trim Santas. My mom has a couple that she’s had for years. I bought a Santa and Mrs. Claus salt and pepper shaker set at a church sale a long time ago. I confess that last year I bought two on Etsy and gave one to my daughter and one to my husband and said, “Give this to me for Christmas.” I sent a link to my mom for one for this year so fingers crossed!
Jessie: I love seeing all your decorations, old and new! Our house is always decorated for Christmas with a collection of sentimental ornaments acquired over the years, especially craft projects my children have created. One of my very favorites was made at school by my youngest many years ago. It has hung on the door to our front porch at the holidays every year since and never fails to make me smile when I catch a glimpse of it. Here’s hoping there are things that make each of you smile this season!

We have a tree that looks like it belonged to Charlie Brown. We love it and drag it out each year because our precious pug named Amber loved to sleep underneath. In her memory, we call it our Amber tree.

My favorite decoration, since I love to bake, has to be my little kitchen tree. Well it’s in the shape of a tree with a star cookie cutter for the topper. It’s decorated with little pixies working their magic in the kitchen.

Sherry–I have two of those figures! I inherited them from my mom. There’s a Mrs. Claus with flowing skirt and a Santa whose pack is a little vase where you can put a sprig of holly, pine or mistletoe. I didn’t know they were a thing.
That is so cool! The auctions for them on eBay get a little crazy! I knew I loved them so started poking around last year. Some of them go for over $200!
Years ago before our first son was born, I purchased a set of wooden Charlie Brown figures with the whole cast and did a sort of paint by number on them, except it was look at the enclosed picture and paint. We still put them out on our tree every year and now our Grands help us! Our neighbor sent us a card this year and I liked the verse on it, so am including it here: “At Christmas, I want you to know that I’m thankful for you and wishing you all the contentment and joy this beautiful season has to offer.” Hallmark Card, 2021

I gave all the ornaments my children made over the years to them and they are on their trees. I will never part with the ornaments from the years we got married and the ones for Baby’s First Christmas with each of my two children. I have a lot, most of which are attached to memories. Like the nativity set my family brought me back from Israel. Or the ornament used to announce my niece was on the way. It is a Christmas tree with “My favorite uncle” painted on it. (At the time, I was the only uncle in the family.)
Those do sound like treasures!
I’ve previously told the story of the pink felt pig. It, and one other ornament, are the oldest two we have. Our whole tree is decorated with memories. We have so many that even with a larger tree this year, many end up on a shelf nearby. Forty-eight years of happiness in one place.

I love these photos!! I’m obsessed with Christmas ornaments and have been since I was a kid. We have way too many, especially since I needlepoint a few every year. I can’t even pick a favorite but even with all my crafting – I turn my books covers into ornaments every year, too – my favorite would have to be these glass ball ornaments from my childhood that have tiny scenes inside. Like, a tree and a church. I only have a couple left – maybe even down to one – so they’re really special.

My favorite Christmas decoration is a Santa Claus that was made by our neighbor the December I was born in 1955. My mother always set that Santa in a place of honor in our living room. She passed away 4 years ago and now that Santa sits in a place of honor in our living room.
What a treasure that Santa is!

I love vintage ornaments and my first stop at any antique store or yard sale is the Christmas counter! I’ve collected a number over the years and cherish each one. My most precious – the pickle that legend has it was brought over from Germany by my grandparents. I’m pretty sure the story is bogus – but I like it.
We have a pickle, too! Not easy to find on a green tree.
