Cover Reveal — From Beer to Eternity

Donnadurnell is the winner of the ARC of Sell Low, Sweet Harriet. Look for an email from me!

Sherry, here and I’m so excited to show you the cover of From Beer to Eternity. It’s the first in my new Chloe Jackson, Sea Glass Saloon mystery series! I’m celebrating with a giveaway too! From Beer to Eternity releases on July 28, 2020.

Here’s a bit about the book:

A whip smart librarian’s fresh start comes with a tart twist in this perfect cocktail of murder and mystery—with a romance chaser.
MURDER ON TAP

With Chicago winters in the rearview mirror, Chloe Jackson is making good on a promise: help her late friend’s grandmother run the Sea Glass Saloon in the Florida Panhandle. To Chloe’s surprise, feisty Vivi Slidell isn’t the frail retiree Chloe expects. Nor is Emerald Cove. It’s less a sleepy fishing village than a panhandle hotspot overrun with land developers and tourists. But it’s a Sea Glass regular who’s mysteriously crossed the cranky Vivi. When their bitter argument comes to a head and he’s found dead behind the bar, guess who’s the number one suspect?

In trying to clear Vivi’s name, Chloe discovers the old woman isn’t the only one in Emerald Cove with secrets. Under the laid-back attitude, sparkling white beaches, and small town ways something terrible is brewing. And the sure way a killer can keep those secrets bottled up is to finish off one murder with a double shot: aimed at Chloe and Vivi.

From Beer to Eternity is available for preorder. To celebrate I’m giving away an ARC of Sell Low, Sweet Harriet which is out on December 31. I’ll pick a winner on Sunday, November 10.

  1. Sounds like a great new series! I haven’t been in several years, but my favorite beach is on the island where I grew up. Never crowded and always beautiful!

  2. Congrats! Sounds like this will be a fun series. My favorite beach in this coast is Stinson Beach, CA. Beautiful drive just to get there. Also love Pass-a-grille near St. Petersburg, FL. Gorgeous.

  4. Congrats, it sounds very good, can’t wait! I find lake beaches to be so different from ocean ones. There is a small public beach on the lake near us, Sibley beach, that is cute, quiet and not too weedy as summer goes on!

  5. Sherry, the cover is great and this sounds like it is going to be quite the exciting and entertaining new series. I’m definitely going to be interested in this one.

As for beaches, I don’t have a favorite beach. I’ve been to the beach exactly once in the last 3 decades.

  8. Great cover, Sherry.

I think the best beach I was ever at was in Puerto Rico, Luquillo. Soft white sand and blue water. Although PR has a number of beautiful beaches, this one stands out to me.

  9. In the 60’s, my family would take week vacation to Clearwater Beach, FL. Stay at the same place every year. The unit had a kitchenette, was a pool out front, shuffle board, and pop machine. Would not trade those wonderful memories for anything!

      1. I actually still have a vintage postcard of the place that they sold in the lobby. Its probably not there anymore. There were NO MOTELS 3 blocks from the beach.

  10. Flagler, on the Atlantic side. We’re spending February there. It’s midway between St. Augustine, where I’m doing book research, and Daytona, where we have tix for the 500. Like retirement practice for when we get old.

  11. I guess my favorite beach is in front of our time share in Hilton Head – wide, flat, good for walking and riding bikes. We have been lucky to have seen some beautiful beaches thanks to the Army sending us different places, and I would be hard pressed to pick one. The one I would like to return to is Omaha Beach in Normandy – beautiful and haunting.

  12. Hubby had never seen the ocean so our trip to Maine couple years ago to see the gorgeous fall colors was highlighted by traveling up the entire coastline stopping at the lighthouses and beaches. I had lived in California as a kid for nine years and the west coast beaches are pretty, but the special memories made on the east coast makes them my favorite.

Can’t wait to read more about Chloe and Vivi and their adventures in “From Beer to Eternity”. Love the cover with the subtle suggestions of unrest with the unsettled bird to the broken bottle. Already on my TBR list.

Thank you for the opportunity to win an ARC of “Sell Low, Sweet Harriet” which is also on my TBR list. Love garage sales and can’t wait to read about Sarah’s adventures and sleuthing skills. I would love to read and review posting where I can prior to it’s release and everywhere else once released,

  13. Sherry, you have the greatest titles ever! This one made me laugh out loud and the cover calls to mind Jimmy Buffett music, which is always a good thing. I don’t have a favorite beach. As Jimmy says, “I wanna go where it’s warm!”

  14. Picking a beach is a bit hard. I live in Sheepshead Bay Brooklyn. I can walk to Manhattan beach is 15 minutes. Or a 15 minute bus ride takes me to Brighton Beach, which 12 blocks down become Coney Island Beach… So that’s my local options.

We love the beaches up on Cape Cod and try to get there every couple of years just for the fun of it.

FYI – Both new books have been added to my Upcoming New Release List. I post the new upcoming releases on the 15th. of each month for the coming month.

  17. I’m not a hang out on the beach person (don’t like sand in my swimsuit), but I love to stand above a beach and watch the waves come in. I’ve done this on many beaches on both coasts. However, I love reading about the any place that is warm!

  18. I love the Beach – any Beach – but my favorite Beach will always be Hampton (NH) Beach – one of only two honky tonk beaches left on the Northeast Coast (the other being Old Orchard in Maine). I grew up going there; my friends hung out there, and even now, I’ll take a few days and book a hotel even though I live only an hour away.

  20. You had me at ‘new from Sherry Harris”! Here in Wilmington, NC, we’re surrounded by tons of lovely beaches, but the blistering summer sun and teeming tourists can make beach time less than relaxing. My favorite beach is York Beach, Maine (though I’ve been to and loved Hampton Beach and Old Orchard Beach, too!)

  23. I am in the middle of Oklahoma. Although we have a lot more water & bodies of water than you might think, I really don’t think of any of them with beaches.

However, my husband’s parents lived in Cambria CA many years ago. We used to go down to the “beach” there to see the water, and the waves crashing against the rocks. NO Swimming, and no laying out on the beach — rocky, rip tides, etc. — but wonderful anyway. Several years ago we went back for a quick visit — Cambria has changed from the small, quaint, sleepy town to lots & lots of houses and people and tourists. Where the “beach” area used to be uncrowded, and in fact lots of open area up & down the coast, now there are houses built close by [and very, very expensive too], and a park kinda place. The area next to the water is still rocky and no swimming, etc. And it is still wonderful to see the waves crashing against the rocks.

Guess I am not really a “beach” kind of girl — no laying out, no wearing a swimsuit, no swimming in the oceans (or other bodies of water). Perhaps that’s because I was born and raised in New Mexico, and now live in Oklahoma. But I expect it would be the same if I’d lived in Malibu. 🙂

  27. Hi Sherry,

Your title is TERRIBLE! Which means it’s a great title, since we all know the worst puns make the best titles. And I agree with Kay Garrett about your cover. The beautiful beach, but full of hints that all is not well. I think your artist did you proud!

As to beaches, I am the least beach person I’ve ever known. For one thing, I’m the whitest thing you’ve ever seen, and I have a well-founded fear that on a beach in a swimsuit, I’m at serious risk for being mistaken for The Great White Whale (from an obscure novel I’m sure no one hear has ever encountered). And to be honest, I find lying on the beach pretty boring. Reading in bright dazzling sun, is a challenge (even with the latest Kindles), and I find it difficult and uncomfortable to try reading on my back, lying flat.

And more to the point, irrespective of how much sunscreen I slather on, I’ll invariably miss a key spot and within ten minutes, it’s blistered and charred, and I’m in pain for the next three days and strewing flakes of peeling skin for the next ten. (Too much information? Sorry.)

But I must say the beaches of all the Hawaiian Islands, but particularly Lanai and Oahu, are spectacularly beautiful (particularly when seen from a snorkeling boat at sea lying in a chaise holding a beverage with a tiny umbrella.

But two years ago, I encountered the most wonderful beach (and the most wonderful way to experience it) I’ve ever seen. I took a Caribbean cruise, and my cruise line has a private island called Half Moon Cay. I decided to go all out and splurge and paid for a private cabana for the day. It was very pricey, but worth every single penny.

The cabana was a thatched beach hut with a roof, three solid walls and the missing fourth wall open to a very large porch area with two very comfy chaise lounges and a giant fan (in the event the tropical breezes didn’t keep you sufficiently cool and comfortable. The inner area had a table and chairs and a refrigerator stocked with snacks and my beverages of choice, and kept replenished throughout the day by the fabulous stewards from the ship.

The cabana came equipped with flotation mats and a fresh-water shower. I actually ventured down to the beach and the ocean (the views of which were spectacular from my chaise) several times. The sand was the finest I’ve ever encountered, feeling to my feet more like face powder than grit, and the water was just cool enough to be refreshing on a hot day. So I spent one of the most pleasurable days I can remember, being pampered, venturing down to swim when I felt too warm, and reading to my heart’s desire all day (undoubtedly one of Sherry’s books).

Life really doesn’t get much better than that day!
