Judith who post at 11:54 am is the winner of my books! Thanks for all of your lovely comments!
There is some news that is so exciting to share and some you don’t want to at all. This is one of those posts I wish I didn’t have to write, but I’ve had lots of readers reaching out.
I’m sorry to say that Kensington didn’t renew my contract to write more Chloe Jackson Sea Glass Saloon mysteries. I feel so lucky to have been able to write four of them! Since I wasn’t sure what would happen when I turned in the fourth book, I tried to make sure Chloe’s life was in an upward trajectory!
What’s ahead may have some spoiler alerts if you haven’t read the series, but I wanted to let you know where I think the characters are, now, in this moment.
Chloe is so happy with Rip and yes, I’m sure an engagement is in the future. She is still getting into shenanigans with Ann Williams. There’s a certain someone she is hoping will return and face what must be faced. Chloe and Vivi are the most supportive of friends and love each other dearly. Chloe is taking over more and more responsibilities at the Sea Glass Saloon.
Vivi is engaged to Wade Thomas! They are taking time off to travel and enjoy each other.
Joaquín has a complication in his life. He’s been asked to be a judge of a dancing show filming in Los Angeles. The pay is amazing and would set him and Michael up for a good long time. But he hasn’t told Michael or Chloe about the offer yet!
Ann Williams is still fixing things for people, but can she fix things with Deputy Biffle? They are still circling each other and I’m hoping they will find a way to be together.
The rest of the good people of Emerald Cove are working hard and playing hard. They are all happy that the murder rate is down!
Thanks to all of you who have read these books and loved them. I’ve so enjoyed hearing from so many of you! I loved writing them and wished I had better news.
Readers: I don’t want to leave things on a sad note, so I’ll give away a set of the Sea Glass Saloon mysteries to someone who leaves a comment!
Well crap. Sorry to hear this. Hope there’s another series in the works. I don’t need all 4 books in the series but if you have an extra Rum and Choke, I’ll take that.

I’m going to miss these characters. I guess I never thought of how a publishing house could not publish a successful author. Learn something new everyday if you pay attention . I have all the books in the series already.

I have this series on my TBR close to the top of the list. While I am sorry that they did not renew your contract I am still eager to read it.
It is sad when the publishers decide not to renew especially when we the readers enjoy them so much. I know you must have new things in the works and I for one look forward to them In the meantime I do look forward to this reading your Sea Glass Saloon series.
PS LOVED the Garage Sale Series and was sorry that one ended.
Again looking forward to see what you come up with next ❤️

I’d suspect this news was coming. But it doesn’t make is any less sad to see it official. And why do I feel like we’ve got a dance show setting for the next book (they come to town to film) or maybe a spin off? Oh, I know it wouldn’t be official, but I can picture that happening in my imagination.

I love that you can picture it! It’s so funny because while some of the updates I’ve been thinking about that one popped into my head just as I was writing about it. Wouldn’t it be fun to have the dance competition in Emerald Cove?!

I hate it when publishers do that to a series that hasn’t finished. They should allow 1 more book to wrap things up, much like your blog post. I have enjoyed Chloe and the people in your stories.

This is not the first time Kensington has done this… I have not read your books (yet) but would love to read what all the comments here are raving about. I was deep into writing my own Cozy, when they dropped Kaitlin Dunnet (aka Kathy Lynne Emerson) with whom I had a nice, casual correspondence, and who had been offering me some much appreciated encouragement. When they dropped her, the author of so many fabulous books, not confined to Cozies, I thought, I’ll never be able to be published,” as I had thought Kensington might be amenable to taking on a new author. So I stopped writing. Now with your news, I am committed to never purchasing anything published by Kensington, and am drafting both a correspondence to them, and an online petition to boycott . It pains me to do this,as it hurts the pockets of the authors who are still under contract, but in my own way, I’ve got to do some! I hope another publishing house snaps you up, but until then, “The pen is mightier than the sword.” Or perhaps in true Cozy Mystery mode…the pen IS the sword!

I hope you take up writing again–you must have had a good idea or Kaitlyn/Kathy wouldn’t have been encouraging you. It’s a tough business and a numbers game, but it is so worth it to see responds like the ones in the comments today!

So sorry to hear this – loved the series and getting to know Chloe. Such a unique story angle – can’t believe it’s not getting renewed! I survived the loss of further adventures with Sarah and am sure I will survive this – will definitely keep these books on the binge re-read list! Looking forward to reading whatever you write next!

I am a first time (self)published author. What has happened to you makes me really sad. I don’t know how this works and I don’t know how your contract is written, but could you publish your last book as an audio book yourself? Your writing is interesting and entertaining and I know you will do well.. just with someone else.

Guess it really is true that all good things must come to an end. However, this is one time that I don’t think that is quite true. As long as the books are out in the public, there will be new readers to see them and old readers that will enjoy reading them again. That is the case with the Sea Glass Saloon mystery series. Thank you for bring them to us and giving us many hours of enjoyment!
Thank you for the very generous and fabulous chance to win the whole set! I would love the opportunity to add them to my MUST keep library where they would be reread and then brought to the attentions of friends and relatives to be loaned out so that many others in the here and now as well as in the years to come can enjoy them as well. Shared and very much hoping to be the very fortunate one selected.

My fingers are crossed that you will be picked up for another series or that you self-publish. Thanks for the many hours of reading pleasure.

I echo what many others have said — I’ve loved the Sea Glass characters and books. Here’s hoping your agent might be able to find a home for future titles. Or have you considered continuing the series on your own since you have a reader base? If I’m remembering correctly, Ellie Alexander/Kate Dyer Seely did that with one of her series, although I don’t know how well it’s doing. Thank you for the enjoyable hours with the Sea Glass gang, and wishing you all the best with whatever your next projects are!

Bummer. I really enjoyed this series (as i did your Garage Sale series). Please consider self publishing as so many other authors in this position have done. Best of luck to where ever your writing takes you.

That is so disappointing. I wish there would be another publisher that would do like TV networks have been known to do, namely pick up the cancelled series and give it a new home.
Why does this always happen to books and authors I like?
Can your agent market the series to other publishing houses and maybe find a new home for Chloe and friends? Could you maybe take a poll and see if it would be worth your while to self publish the series? I just hate to see a good series end before it’s time. Four books just isn’t enough. They’re just getting started and they’re stopped coming out of the gate. I’m so sorry Sherry, for you but more so for all of us who love your characters and vested time in them only to have to say goodbye before we are ready.

Sherry, so sorry to hear this. They obviously don’t understand that we readers need closure! They shouldn’t just end a series, at least let the author wrap it up. Let the readers know what’s going on in the future. Sorry, rant over.

Sherry, I think you gave much more to Kensington Press than they gave you. Your terrific Sarah Winton in the Garage Sale series, and Chloe Jackson in the Sea Glass Saloon Mysteries generated so many fans!! Not to mention your great representation of the publishing house as a quality author/speaker/marketer connecting with readers in your travels and appearances. They did give you an opportunity, and you shined like the star you are. It’s their mistake and loss not to renew you. Such is the publishing business these days. But you’ll go on to better things in whatever way or format you choose, because that’s who you are. And your readers will follow.
—Always a fan!
