Five Furry Familiars
What’s with all the familiars?
Honestly, it’s kind of my dream. And it’s definitely, a dream of my husband’s. He’d collect all the homeless and abused dogs and give them a home. I love pets. My mom was a widow with five kids under 16 when my dad died. We didn’t have a lot of pets around since it was probably hard to keep the kids fed (and under control) on her own.
My first dog was a Peki/Pom mix named Cinderella. I think I’d just seen the movie in the theater. I loved this dog. My stepfather had a Siamese cat named Muller who adopted me as his person. I’ve been bi-lingual (a cat and dog person) since I was a kid.
When I married my first husband, he used our pets as a money-making proposal. So we had breeders. I wanted to keep all the pups and got attached quickly. He didn’t.
Then when I got divorced, I wanted that companion again. My boyfriend bought me Bella, a baby Pom. Then Demon, another Pom. And finally, Homer. By the time we lost Homer and Demon a few years ago, they were senior dogs (14 and 19) and had carved a hole in our hearts.
Now, we have the Keeshonds – Dexter, and Quinn. Quinn is under my desk as I write this – Dexter is a daddy’s boy so he’s wherever my husband is at.
Pets are a huge part of my life. And as such, they’re also a part of my character’s lives. They add flavor to the stories. Getting a box of kittens left on her doorstep made Mia wonder if this was a test from the Goddess. Was she supposed to find a new familiar in the bunch? Or was the kitten delivery a random, human event?
Trent’s new familiar appears to be the Goddess’s way of showing her approval. He gave up his magic to his brother. The magic flows from one generation to the next, but only to one child in each family. At least, that’s what is supposed to happen, yet Trent still has magic and so does Levi, his younger brother. Trent’s new blessing is going to be a handful as well.
It can’t be easy, right?

Five Furry Familiars
In the latest enchanting mystery from New York Times bestselling author Lynn Cahoon, kitchen witch Mia Malone is working as a catering director at a ski lodge, but when her roommate’s ex checks in, everything starts going downhill . . .
To keep her cooking school and catering business, Mia’s Morsels, afloat, Mia handed off oversight to her boyfriend Trent’s mother while she focused on earning a steady paycheck. Too bad her mean-spirited boss at the lodge keeps the misery flowing as steadily as the money. At least her roommate, Christina, is still dedicated to Mia’s Morsels—though she’s also distracted, thanks to her clingy mother’s constant demands. The distraction only grows when Christina’s old flame shows up in Magic Springs, Idaho, in his Escalade, claiming out of the blue to be her fiancé.
The arrival of some homeless kittens, as well as Trent’s new familiar, a cute little Maltese, brings more chaos—as well as a strange spiritual energy that seems to emanate from the animals. But before Mia can figure out what kind of paranormal pets she has on her hands, she finds herself with a murder to solve—when a dead woman is found in the lodge rental of Christina’s suddenly attentive ex . . .

I love all animals, especially cats. I grew up with at least one cat always being 8n the house and did have several dogs as an adult. My last two cats sadly passed away several years ago and it was so heart-crushing to me, I haven’t been able to replace them yet. Your book sounds like fun to read!

Congratulations on the recent release of FIVE FURRY FAMILIARS! It is most definitely on my TBR list. I would love the opportunity to read and review it. Thank you so much for the chance to win a copy!
We LOVE animals! As a child growing up, I think I had just about every pet imaginable. If it’s only a choice between cat or dog, then it would be dog. Of the two, a dog is what has lived in our home. Unfortunately, our beloved Snickerdoodle crossed the bridge at 17 years, 7 months and 17 days. He is sorely missed. Once the loss has diminished and the sweet memories of him take over, we will then look for a new member of a family. However, I must say though that we are godparents to a cat that we dearly love too.

The house was so quiet after we lost the Poms. Even Thor, our cat at the time, noticed. He’d come running when I got home from work and tell me all about the day.

I am mostly a dog person. But I think if I were on my own, I’d get a cat after Koda crosses the Rainbow Bridge. Less maintenance. But it would have to be a super-friendly cat, like the stray who showed up after we bought The Cottage. We had to rehome here since The Hubby is more allergic to cats than he is dogs (he can tolerate Koda because he’s short-haired and doesn’t shed much) and Koda is not cat-safe.

Barb, thanks for inviting me to play. I just got in late last night from a trip to California to see my sister. My girl, Quinn, was happy to see me. And she’s right next to me as I write this. But I’m leaving again tomorrow for a Cozy Con in WI. I think she’ll probably bite me when I come back. Or sit on me so I can’t move. LOL

Congratulations on your latest! I am bilingual as well, but lean toward cats more than dogs. We live in Northern Maine. Hubs does not mind walking the pup in all weathers – including blizzards – but I’m far more content scooping the box :). We’ve had as many as eight cats – all rescues, most abandoned on our property – and now have four. One is watching me as I type.

I’ve always loved dogs. When I was young, I would have loved to have one, but my mother didn’t care for dogs. I was allowed to have a parakeet, who was actually rather affectionate and liked to have his chin stroked.
When my husband and I married, we both wanted to get a dog right away. We bought a wonderful black Labrador puppy, whom we name Midnight Max and had the privilege of being in our family for just short of 14 years. Our two children wanted another dog right away after Max died. We let them pick out an Australian shepherd, whom they named Shadow. We were privileged to have Shadow as our companion for just over 14 years. No dogs for us now, as we travel a lot. We just enjoy our daughter’s two Labs, Howie and Hank.
Best wishes and much success with your writing!

We are dog people. I had Frenchie when I was a child at 11. He was a French poodle that I so wanted and was a Christmas present in 1959. Then someone threw a Border Collie over our fence, and I named him Luther Woofington the Third. I had had a wild male cat before that named Panther Muffin and then a Siamese that was awful. I wanted one as I love Kim Novak in “Bell, Book and Candle.” She peed in the sink and bit my mother’s ankles. Her name is on the tip of my tongue, but I cannot remember it now. Hubby Dearest and I have had dogs since the 1980s and will continue to have them as they are the best. Life is not good without a dog in the house. You may not even pet them or see them, but the house feels like a home with them in it. I want them forever.

I have 2 cats whom I inherited from my son when his landlord would not let him keep them. I always had dogs. I was the person you called if a dog needed adopting. I even fostered for the shelter. All the cats we had when I lived out of the city, but they were outdoor animals and visited when the spirit moved them. Now I am a cat mother living in the city and my home would be a dungeon without my furry friends.
