Ah, summer when we supposedly have more time to read. Is that true for you Wickeds? What are you currently reading and what are you looking forward to?
Liz: I have SO MANY BOOKS to catch up on that I have no idea where to start. I’m finishing up this great find called Midnight on Beacon Street, a debut by Emily Ruth Verona that’s very suspenseful and creepy – so good. Next on the list I have an arc of Chaos at the Lazy Bones Bookshop, the first in a new series by Emmeline Duncan that I’m super excited about. And also The General’s Gold by LynDee Walker and Bruce Robert Coffin!
Julie: Liz, LynDee and Bruce’s books are on my Kindle. They are joined by Rachel Howzell Hall’s What Fire Brings, Rob Hart’s Assassins Anonymous, and Delia Pitts Trouble in Queenstown to name a few. I devour books in the summer, and can’t wait to also reread some old favorites.
Jessie: Julie, I’m intrigued by the title Assassins Anonymous! As for me, I’m currently reading Magic Lessons by Alice Hoffman and Seafaring Women by David Cordingly. I also plan to reread some of the #1 Ladies Detective Agency books as a delicious summer beach read!
Edith: Ooh, I want to read Delia’s new book, too. I’m currently reading last week’s guest John Copenhaver’s Hall of Mirrors. SO good. Next up is Rob Osler’s Cirque du Slay, and then Jaqueline Winspear’s last Maisie Dobbs (sniff), The Comfort of Ghosts.
Sherry: Edith, I just picked up The Comfort of Ghosts for my mom. She’s so sad the series is ending! I just finished Fall by Tracy Clark. It’s one of those mysteries that kept me guessing. It’s him, it’s her, it can’t be that person, they are too obvious. I loved it. I started reading Broken Bayou by Jennifer Moorhead who is our guest on Thursday. It’s a June Prime Reads book. I’ve only read three chapters, but Jennifer makes you feel things! And I’m also looking forward to Trouble in Queenstown.
Barb: After I posted about the Thursday Club my mother belonged to, in the blog comments, Sherry and April recommended the book …And the Ladies of the Club by Helen Hooven Santmyer. It’s a sprawling, 1000+ page book, covering the years 1868 to 1932. It was originally published in 1982 by a small university press, when Santmyer was 87 and already living part-time in a nursing home. By complete chance the novel was discovered by an executive in the movie industry, which led to it being republished by Putnam, being a Book-of-the-Month Club Main Selection, and becoming a national bestseller. Conceived as an antidote to Sinclair Lewis’s Main Street, which Santmyer thought too negative about small-town life, the book is a deeply immersive journey through a period of US history often forgotten. It is also frequently problematic and has a narrative style that is both clever and vexing. I so wished I was reading it with a book group, because I desperately wanted to discuss it with others.
What about you, readers? What are you reading and looking forward to?
Currently reading HER SURPRISE AMISH MATCH by Pamela Desmond Wright and really enjoying it. I’m looking forward to the opportunity to read MURDER AT THE RUSTY ANCHOR by Edith Maxwell.

I’m not really reading anything special due to it being the summertime. I just keep reading all the various books I’ve accumulated over the years.
However, for July’s mystery book club selection I’ll be re-reading Hank Phillippi Ryan’s THE OTHER WOMAN.
Also, I have to get started on Jack Carr’s RED SKY MOURNING which I have a copy of though it isn’t due out until next week I believe.
And I can’t forget that I’ll soon be able to read the new Maddie Day mystery MURDER AT THE RUSTY ANCHOR. I’m still working on a bunch of other books, but that list is too long to list here.

Right now, I’m reading FOUNDING BROTHERS, a book about the various Founding Fathers and the events that shaped the early years of America. Then I have Elle Cosimano’s second Finley Donovan. I will read the next one from LynDee Walker and Bruce Coffin when it comes out (THE GENERAL’S GOLD was fun).
This was supposed to be the year I read all of Deb Crombie’s backlist. I’m not doing so well on that.

Wonderful book recommendations, dear ladies! I am still living in the last book I finished yesterday: Alan Hlad’s FLEEING FRANCE. It is a riveting, edge of your seat Rollercoaster of a WWII historical thriller/romance novel. There are so many events that I learned about, which I never heard of…are you familiar with the ship the LANCASTRIA? I am also into the 4th. chapter of Molly McRae’s new series starter COME SHELL OR HIGH WATER (A Haunted Shell Shop Mystery, and finally started listening to Richard Osman’s second mystery: THE MAN WHO DIED TWICE. I dream about not having any books to read so I could explore more books…dream on! I will surely buy at least a few books this week, and they will be placed on an interminable queue…. such fun, huh? Thank you for writing so many amazing books for us to live in for as long as your story lasts, and then wait until your next masterpiece comes alive!!! Happy summer y’all. Luis at ole dot travel

I don’t read more during the summer. Not sure how I would squeeze any extra in.
I’m one chapter into MURDER ON ROSE HILL, the latest Gaslight Mystery from Victoria Thompson. I always enjoy this series, so I’m looking forward to getting further into it.
Up next will be MOTHER-DAUGHTER MURDER NIGHT by Nina Simon. I’ve been hearing lots of good things about it. Then I’ll be reading an ARC of MURDER ON DEVIL’S POND by Ayla Rose, aka Wendy Tyson.

I also have Nina’s book on my list, Mark! I haven’t kept up with Vicky’s Gaslight series lately, but I think I need to fix that.

Barb,
Would you believe I’m also reading “…And Ladies of the Club?” It had been sitting on my bookshelf for years, and I finally got to it. Of course I’m also reading and listening to three or four more books. They’re all long. One I just finished was THE COVENANT OF WATER.

Barbara, I am so sad that the Busman’s Harbor series has ended. I love your books. Can’t wait for Vivien Chien’s newest to come out. Ia m reading Sherry Harris’s Three Shots to the Wind and then Rum and Choke. Then I will be caught up on those and they are so good. So many TBR. What to choose next? Too many, too little time. All of you authors, keep it up and eventually I will read you. I think Robert B. Parker’s Sunny Randall’s will be next.

I recently finished Demon Copperhead by Barbara Kingsolver—difficult, but worth it. Then I read Love at First Book by Jenn McKinlay to recover. I’m currently reading Agatha Christie: An Elusive Woman by Lucy Worsley. Looking forward to Jessie’s newest (out next week) Murder at an English Séance.
