Celebrate the Fourth!

Jessie: Blissfully beachside in Maine with family and friends

It’s been quite a week. Some of you may have noticed that all the Wickeds have been helping to celebrate the launch of my newest mystery, Maple Mayhem. Tuesday was the official publication date but the merriment has continued and the week has been wonderful. And one of the best parts is that the week ends with the celebration of Independence Day. sparkler

I adore the Fourth of July. I love grilled foods and picnics of all sorts. I love sundresses and big, floppy hats. I have a childlike devotion to fireworks and sparklers. My husband and I even got married on the sixth which allows us to extend the festive atmosphere every year by two extra days.

I hope you have a chance to enjoy some old-fashioned fun this weekend and I hope you will help me to celebrate the end of this week by leaving a comment about your Fourth of July traditions, a favorite summer recipe or a best Independence Day memory. I’ll be giving away a copy of Maple Mayhem to one commenter and one of the first book in the Sugar Grove series, Drizzled with Death, to another.

CONTEST WINNERS!

Ronna and Mark you have each won a book! If you would contact me at my email address: jessie@jessiecrockett.com to let me know where to send it, I will get your books in the mail right away.

  1. The only tradition we have is to stay off the roads on Holiday weekends.

  2. Congratulations on your anniversary, too, Jessie! My ex husband and I used to host a 4th party for over a hundred people. Kids and adults of all ages jumped on the trampoline, drank from a keg (no, not the kids), visited, played horseshoes and bocce, and ate a lot. Wicked fun and many fond memories. This year there will be five of us watching the World Cup during the hurricane. And eating burgers and flag cheesecake with blueberries and strawberries making the flag!

  3. Happy launch, Jessie, and congratulations on your anniversary! When I was in high school, my boyfriend and I walked over to the hatch shell on the Charles. We walked along the esplanade and listened to the Pops. It wasn’t very crowded back then! The fireworks were great. Two romantic teenagers…

  4. We have a BBQ and spend as much time together as a family as we can. Nothing is better than seeing my son’s face light up with excitement for the fireworks!

  5. Happy anniversary! I love all the time with my family. Eating endless watermelon while watching the BIG show is a favorite!

  6. If I win, send me the second book please. Got the first one to read just the other day. One of our best Fourth of July celebrations was visiting our newly wed oldest son in Boston, with our two younger kids. My daughter was just thirteen and was admitting to being very jealous of the new wife’s time with her oldest brother ( her husband). My daughter in law saw this and decided to become my daughter’s best friend. She included her front and center in the dinner celebration and then she said she was going to take her to the center of the Boston fireworks celebration so she could celebrate her ” independence from her bossy older brother “. The implied turn around worked perfectly, and they’ve been best friends ever since. And this mother in law loved it !! Fourth of July—celebrating togetherness of country and family!!!!

  7. Happy anniversary a little early!

I don’t have one set tradition. It seems I wind up at a BBQ and pool party most years with different groups of friends. Usually, fireworks are involved. One year, I visited a friend at a Christian camp where he was working for the summer. The last two years, I’ve been camping with my family.

So as you can see, I’ve been all over the place.

  8. my favorite 4th of July memory is family get-togethers with lots of food, & fun times with my cousin!!!!

    1. Went into easy labor on the 3rd expecting a 4th baby, he arrived on the 7th.He always glad he arrived late because we have two big celebrations

  9. No family 4th traditions. I usually watch the Boston Pops on tv.

  10. Grilling hamburgers & hot dogs and enjoying chilled watermelon…yum!
