Stowed Away ARCs are Here! (And a Giveaway)

by Barb, sorry to see the summer go

Update: The winners have been chosen by random.org and have been notified. Thanks so much for participating in the giveaway. I’ll be doing more giveaways on my Facebook page here and via my e-mail newsletter (sign up here) and on Goodreads.

The ARCs for Stowed Away are here. For those who don’t know, ARCs are Advance Reader Copies (or Advance Review Copies) that publishers send to reviewers, bookstores, bloggers, and others in hopes of getting buzz for a book. They’re uncorrected proofs. At Kensington, they typically incorporate the copy edits, but don’t include the final corrections the production department and I find while reviewing the galleys.

Two lucky commenters to the blog will win an ARC for Stowed Away and won’t have to wait until December 26 to find out what happens.

I’m excited about this sixth addition to the story of the Maine Clambake Mysteries. Here’s the publisher’s description:

It’s June in Busman’s Harbor, Maine, and Julia Snowden and her family are working hard to get their authentic Maine clambake business ready for summer. Preparations must be put on hold, however, when a mysterious yacht drops anchor in the harbor—and delivers an unexpected dose of murder . . .

When Julia’s old prep school rival Wyatt Jayne invites her to dinner on board her billionaire fiancé’s decked-out yacht, Julia arrives to find a sumptuous table set for two—and the yachtsman dead in his chair. Suspicion quickly falls on Wyatt, and Julia’s quest to dredge up the truth leads her into the murky private world of a mega-rich recluse who may not have been all that he seemed . . .

There will also be Netgalley copies for those who prefer electronic ARCs, but they’re not up yet. I’ll let you know on my Facebook page when they’re available.

Readers: Do you like the little jump on the story you get with an ARC, or would you rather wait until all the i’s are dotted and the t’s are crossed in the final version?

  1. Gosh, Barbara, so much would love the arc of Stowed Away, nothing like holding a book in your hands and turning each page, especially if it’s the Clambake series, my favorite as it has The shores of Maine as the setting, and of course the Snowden family. Have a great day, Maureen

  2. Barb, your book would be enjoyable even if you had missing dots on the i’s and a few wandering t’s.

  3. Looking forward to this next chapter in Julia’s life. I like ARCs because I get to read the book early. On the other hand, I have to wait longer for the next book in the series (unless I get an ARC of that one too).

  4. I am excited for the next story in Julia’s life! I would love to not have to wait by reading early and I completely understand that occasionally there may be small typos or editing pieces left! Thank you so much!!

  5. I like arcs because you don’t have to wait as long to read the book. I just love to read, so I’d read the book either way, but early is nice. Hope I win!

  6. I like the option of having an ARC to read because I am too impatient to wait to read the book on the launch day. I’m looking forward to the next book in the series being released!

  7. It IS tough to see summer come to a close (on the upside, the traffic in Wiscasset will gradually diminish), but having Stowed Away to look forward to is a little welcome breath of spring. Can’t wait to read it in any format! (Note to Pub: in promo “delivers an unexpected cargo of murder”?)….. just saying….

  8. I love ARC’s! I’ve been introduced to many great series by reading them. It’s a privilege to receive one.
Congratulations on the 6th book in your Maine Clambake Mystery series. The story sounds wonderful. I chuckled at the yachtsman dead in that chair, LOL. I love the cover too. The covers for this series are always so vivid and alluring. I’d love to read this one. Just my time of year for reading cozies. ( :

  10. I would love to win this ARC! It doesn’t bother me at all that it’s early, it’s kind of a special feeling to be able to read something before it comes out.

  13. Congrats on the upcoming book! I usually don’t mind ARCs, assuming the errors are limited to a few typos. I once saw one where it looked as if chunks of certain paragraphs were missing, which made it a challenge to read. mbradeen@yahoo.com

      1. I always figured they mostly only had proofreading errors until I saw that ARC. No idea what was going on with that book. Cat on the keyboard, maybe? Hopefully they got it all sorted out before the final version was released.

  14. ARCs don’t turn me off on a book. I find I can read the book and still get the idea and plot of a book. Thanks for hosting this new book Stowed Away by Barbara Ross. I love her series with Julia Snowden and her family’s clambake business. robeader53(at)yahoo(dot)com

  15. I can’t wait to revisit characters, but by reading an ARC, I wind up having to wait even longer until the next time I get to see them. It’s a vicious circle. Of course, it helps that I tend to read ARCs in time to review a book on release day, so I’m not waiting as long as I might otherwise.

  17. I can go either way, ARC or finished book. Since I’m no longer on the Kensington list I don’t always know when or how I’ll finagle a copy of the book into my hot little hands. So just toss my name into your contestant box and we’ll see how it turns out. I do love the series.

  18. I would love an early copy of your new book. Have always loved Maine for its rugged beauty both inland and along the coast. One day I am going to cabbage Island Clam Bake. Your characters are very likable and I’m dying to know what they have been up to since we last got together.

I haven’t started this series yet but my book list keeps getting longer! I have the feeling I should visit the Maine Coast and read the entire series!

  25. To answer your question, if the ARC is being offered and the book is in a favorite series such as yours, I don’t mind that it isn’t a final printing as I like to spread the word in advance on FB etc to get the author more pre order hopefully. With a new series or an author that I have not read yet, then I don’t mind waiting until it is released.
I had hoped to get our trip to Maine in before September but it just didn’t work out yet. Hoping soon though.
Thank you for entering me into the mix to possibly win an ARC of Stowed Away.
By the way, I had my Snowden tote today when we went out to breakfast and I spent at least ten minutes talking about this great series with two dinners near our table, then our server got into the conversation. I love when that happens!!!! 💙
Take care and congratulations on the release.
