by Barb, who is off to the Berkshires later this week for some foliage viewing and other cool stuff
The news is out! Maine Clambake #11, Hidden Beneath, is up on the various retail sites. It will be published June 27, 2023, almost exactly a year after Muddled Through.
Here’s the cover.
I love it and hope you do, too. The title doesn’t show up that well on the retail sites, but all the other elements are perfect. The house beyond the curve in the boardwalk is exactly how I envisioned it. And I love that the little red lobster boat is there. It lurks in the background on most of the Maine Clambake Mystery covers and I am always happy to see it.
About the book
Serving up mouthwatering shellfish, the Snowden Family Clambake has become a beloved institution in Busman’s Harbor, Maine. But when new clues rise to the surface five years after the disappearance of Julia Snowden’ s mother’s friend, the family business shifts to sleuthing . . .
Julia and her mother, Jacqueline, have come to the exclusive summer colony of Chipmunk Island to attend a memorial service for Jacqueline’s old friend Ginny, who’s been officially declared dead half a decade after she went out for her daily swim in the harbor and was never seen again. But something seems fishy at the service—especially with the women of the Wednesday Club. As Julia and Jacqueline begin looking into Ginny’s cold case, a present-day murder stirs the pot, and mother and daughter must dive into the deep end to get to the bottom of both mysteries . . .
I’m very excited about this entry in the Maine Clambake Mystery series and I hope you love it.

Readers: How do you react to the title and cover? Don’t hold back!
I love the cover and the title. Good job.
Thanks, Dru! (Not that I drew it, but…) I’m so glad you love it.
Love the cover and the premise for the new book. Can’t wait to read it!!! ❤🤗❤🤗❤🤗❤🤗❤🤗❤🤗
Laurie–I hope you love it!
I love you and your books always wanted to come to Maine and the cover makes me want to walk right there.I envy you long in cape cod.love love your books
I totally agree with Dru Ann. The title and cover look great. I can’t wait! And such a long wait! Congratulations.
I know it’s a long wait. I am a slo-o-o-w writer.
I agree with Dru Ann. Cover and title are great! I can’t wait! Such a long wait!
I know. It’s such a long wait.
I love both! Isn’t it great when the artist continues those little elements over many covers?
The first many covers were by the same artist. Now I can’t find that artist’s name anywhere on the ARCs or books.
Huh. It’s usually on the ARCs. Am off to check my current one…. Nope, not there.
I have a feeling the name of the artist is “a computer.”
Love it!!! I feel like I could walk right on to that cover and stroll that boardwalk! And that chipmunk is the cutest little mascot ever. I look forward to reading it!!
The chipmunk is because the events take place on Chipmunk Island, though I never would have thought of putting one on the cover.
Great cover, Barb. The chipmunk is so adorable!
Thank you!
LOVE IT! From the little chipmunk in the foreground to the curved path and that lovely home that I can envision sitting on the screened in back porch – it all says READ ME. Really like the title too. The only problem with it is knowing that we have to wait until the middle of next year to read it. Another reason I have to practice patients, but I can’t wait to dive into it.

Thank you so much, Kay, I am so glad you “can’t wait.”
I like the cover, lots of good elements. I look forward to seeing ehat part the letters in the mailbox play in the story.
The mailboat that brings the letters to the island has a big role.
I love the chipmunk on the mailbox! Too cute! I really enjoy a good cold case story so I’ll be looking forward to seeing what happens.
I love cold case stories, too.
Congrats – and the cover is wonderful! Jule
Thank you!
Congrats! And the cover is wonderful! Jule
I think the cover is beautiful and I like the name too. June seems so far away!
June seems far away to me, too.
I’m lucky enough to have read and early version and LOVED it!
I’m so glad you loved it, Sherry. There’s been some clean-up since you saw it.
Just preordered from Amazon but they have it out in June not July 2023. Love the cover!
At Kensington they call books that come out at the end of a month by the name of the next month. It’s a whole thing.
Keep ’em coming. Your writing keeps me inspired to plow on with my own book. I hope I finish my project before I run out of Clambake books to read.
Good luck with your book, Christopher.
I’m so excited for the next book. The cover is adorable and represents the town we’ve come to love and know. Julia and her Mom are super smart! Thank you. Already purchased!
Thank you so much for purchasing!
CONGRATULATIONS ON “HIDDEN BENEATH”, dear Barbara! Absolutely over the top news I will share with my book club! All your books are brilliantly written! Book covers I love are full of color and there should be an animal, some quirky scenes that would be explained as we read, and series covers should have an element of consistency, like the red lobster boat in the case of your Maine Clambake Mysteries. just by looking at the cover of this new book prompted me immediately to preorder it…now the waiting time starts…:-) Luis at ole dot travel
Thank you so much, Luis! I agree those are the elements of a perfect cover.
I like covers with lots of detail and color – yours are always wonderful. Your titles are always clever – I never understood the appeal of one word titles that seem to be so popular today. There’s no imagination or substance to them. Can’t wait for the new book – my favorite series of all!
Thank you so much, Alison. I agree Kensington has done a great job with the covers.
Congratulations, Barb! I love the little chipmunk in the mailbox.
Thank you, Liz!
Love the cover for all the reasons everyone else has given. And, even tho’ I know she wasn’t named after me, I appreciate the friend’s name being Ginny. Almost nobody ever uses that name in books. Will be pre-ordering the book from my indie bookstore, Aaron’s, as soon as they open.
There were Ginnys in my mother’s generation, and also in mine. Though my friend next door was called Ginger.
Love the little chipmunk
Me, too.
The cover is adorable but what always impresses me is the snappy two-word titles – love them. Off to order. Congratulations!
The titles have been fun to come up with–especially as I run out of prepositions!
Love the cover, especially the little chipmunk! Congratulations!
Thank you!
I love it! And I can’t wait to read it.
I hope you love the insides, too.
Love the cover art and title. Especially Chips appearance on the cover.
I am going to start calling him Chips.
I love your little sailboat too! Very cheery!
Thank so. I think so, too.
I love it! I can’t wait until June. 2023! I have read on your books by kindle so far but I love. The book covers so much I have decided to buy the physical books!! My sister and I plan to go to union Oct.19 to see you in person!!
How exciting! I’ll see you there. If you hold off on buying the books and by then there, the money will go to the library.
Oh I did go to all your covers to spot the red lobster boat.
It’s so much fun, isn’t it?
You did a great job selecting both the cover and the title! I especially love the detail on the cover! Maine Clambake is a great series to read!
Thanks! I chose the title and gave a description of what I hoped to see on the cover, but Kensington designed and chose it.
Love cover and title. Looking forward to another best seller! Congratulations
Thank you so much, Susan.
I love it, I really do!!
Thanks, Korina.
I LOVE IT!! It is stunning. The title is fabulous. Thank you so much for sharing. God bless you.
Thank you so much, Debbie.
I absolutely love the title and adorable cover!! How cute it is!!
Love both the cover and the intriguing title! Even the letters in the mailbox spark questions in the imagination. This whole series is wonderful. Can’t wait to read book 11!
Love the cover and the title – the whole series, actually! But…I have to wait until June? Sigh… off to pre-order. 🙂
Love it! I love this kind of artwork. I do not like the real cartoony looking covers that many use. Too long to wait though. Hope Julia’s love life gets back on track soon.
Looks and sounds intriguing, Barbara. I love the chipmunk! Congrats on the next book in such a popular series. Brava!
