Happy Solstice! Today is the longest day and shortest night of the year here in the northern hemisphere. It’s also officially the first day of summer, and in the world of spirituality, the solstice is a time for opportunity, change and growth.
And since it’s the longest day of the year, that means we’re going to start ticking down in daylight hours after today (so make sure you get outside and enjoy the extra light!)
So Wickeds, I’m curious. Even though we’re technically heading into the “dog days” of summer and hopefully some fun and relaxation, are you working with the solstice’s energy in your life? Any big changes or growth opportunities you’re thinking about on this big day?

Julie: Liz, you know that I love the lunar cycles, and understanding (or trying to) how they affect me. And they do indeed. I think that the solstice is a wonderful opportunity for reflection, to take stock, and the think about the rest of the year. It’s also a great time to celebrate summer!
Edith/Maddie: I spent last night with my bestie of forty-six years, which is always a treat. We reflect and talk about plans and laugh (and drink wine). What better way to celebrate the solstice?
Liz: I’m all about taking stock and celebrating summer, Julie! I’m doing a bit of a mindset reset (or trying to) for the rest of the year, especially related to the way I approach my work and my creativity. I’m intending to find more FUN in the process!
Sherry: I can’t believe it’s the summer solstice already! No big changes, but I am writing a short story and I always find them particularly challenging.
Jessie: Great topic, Liz! I am working on a novel that is due in September and have just started
Barb: As everyone knows, I’m in Book Jail, so I won’t be celebrating summer until July 1!
Readers, what about you? How are you celebrating the solstice? Tell us in the comments!
It’s summer about all year long here in SW FL. Maybe I will celebrate the longest day of the year by going in the pool to watch the sunset. It’s caged in so the bugs won’t bother us. I wish I could enjoy a glass of wine but due to health reasons I can’t drink. Will have to celebrate with my Zero calories sport drink. Happy Summer to all!!
Nice! Have fun!
Going camping and boating – my husband fishes while I read!
Reading is always good no matter where it’s done 😉
Today, caught up on weeding, watering and normal chores, we are taking the day off to enjoy this longest day of the year. Going to check in our senior fishing licenses. We haven’t fished in years, but it sound like a great way to rest and enjoy nature. Hey if we don’t catch fish, we can always go to the fish house for supper.
Summer brings looking forward to wrapping up our plans for a fall trip, which we look forward to with great expectations and longing. It also gives us more bounty from the veggie garden and more delightful coloring from our flower beds. It may take dragging the water hose, but oh so worth it.

Fun, Kay!
Tonight, I will raise a glass to the sun in a show of gratitude for the longest day of the year. Cheers!
Cheers, J.C.! Raising one with you!
No special plans. Just sitting out in the sunroom, enjoying the quiet and reading.
Love that, Liz!
Happy Summer everyone!! I love June 21 because it is the longest day of the year, but I am joyful every day I can open my eyes and see the love of God shining on me, blessed to start another day “on this side of the dirt”, as one of my 80-something Zumba buddies always says 🙂 I just have to continue ticking with the clock for as long as I am wound up…that makes me happy…another happy moment is when I can pick up or listen to one of your cozy books! Please continue to be inspired and write from your heart, because we readers are touched by your words. I am sorry that sometimes you are in book jail…I offer to send you a cake with a file in it, if it would help 🙂 Thank you most sincerely for sacrificing to benefit us! Luis at ole dot travel
Haha thanks Luis! We’ll all take the cake, I’m sure!
At the start of each season, I reflect upon the last season and set goals for the next one to come.
Love it, Lauren!
My favorite day of the year. Long!!! I’m always upset that the days start to get shorter after that. It’s not sunny here today, but it’s lovely just the same.
We are supposed to hit the lower 80’s for the second day in a row, so I’m celebrating that. Hopefully, we can get some true summer weather going here soon.
Having Happy Hour to celebrate and eating homemade guacamole and homemade tortilla chips. Finishing the latest Lynn Cahoon book tonight. Felicidad!
We traveled home to PA from dropping our daughter of at my mom’s house in TN aka Camp Grandmom LOL
