Merry Christmas!

I thought I’d share some of my vintage Christmas postcards that were given to me by a friend.

Here is the back of this one. I love the penmanship and that it says Nicetown Station.

I love the greeting: Many happy years, unbroken friendships, and cheerful recollections.

I picked this one for its unusual color scheme. Its postmark is from 1906!

The next two surprised me because they use Xmas instead of Christmas. I had no idea Xmas was used in the early 1900s, but with a little research found out it appeared as early as the mid-1500s. The first is postmarked 1913 and the second 1910.

The last card seems British to me because they usually say Happy Christmas instead of Merry Christmas.

  10. I love vintage postcards. Wishing all my new friends on the Wickeds a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. I posted once and it disappeared, so if it now appears it will be double wishes.

  11. Sherry, we are kindred spirits. I have a box filled with vintage postcards I collect. On the console table as you come in our door, there’s one of those spreadable arms things that holds 5 at a time, and I change them seasonally. These are some goodies! I love their sayings and how people could just write a name and city or a street and it would get to the person! Merry Christmas~

  12. I love your collection and envy you. I’ve collected postcards for 60 years, mostly contemporary to the time, but have some vintage ones, too. I don’t know what anyone is going to do with many thousands of cards, but as long as I’m alive, i thoroughly enjoy them.
